Although its crosstown rival, Foxwoods, is older and more well-known, Mohegan Sun has rung up some impressive numbers in a nationwide poll.

USA TODAY’s 10Best.com Readers’ Choice Awards found Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun as the “Best Casino Hotel” for the fifth consecutive year.

Sun Shines Brightly at the Mohegan

The Mohegan Sun opened its doors 10 years after Foxwoods, but after more than a quarter century in business, they have learned a thing or two about the hospitality and gaming industry.

Not only was the Mohegan Sun deemed tops in the “Best Casino Hotel’ category by the 10Best.com Readers’ Choice Awards, but they also landed in the top five in “Best Casino Outside of Las Vegas” and “Best Player’s Club.”

If you are wondering what the difference is between the awards, it’s all in the way the award is worded. Voted as the No. 1 “Best Casino Hotel” is all about the hotel and its amenities. The fact that there happens to be a casino attached is only relevant because it allows the hotel to be graded in this particular category.

However, the casino itself was also highly graded as well. It was voted No. 5 in the “Best Casino Outside of Las Vegas” and its Momentum Rewards were also a big hit with fans as it was also graded No. 5 in the “Best Player’s Club” category.

The Accolades Keep Pouring In

Jeff Hamilton, President & General Manager of Mohegan Sun was apprised of his property’s popularity and stated, “It is quite an honor for Mohegan Sun to be voted Best Casino Hotel for five consecutive years. We pride ourselves on incredible guest service, world-class amenities, and delivering one of the best casino resort experiences that guests can find anywhere. Recognitions like this from USA TODAY are a testament to the hard-working and talented team we have across the board at Mohegan Sun.”

And if that wasn’t enough, the parent company simply named Mohegan, once again graced the pages of Forbes annual America’s Best-In-State Employers List 2022. A survey consisting of 70,000 people who are currently working for companies with more than 500 employees identified Mohegan as one of the best companies across 25 industry sectors.

Renovations Underway

It has been announced that a $15 million makeover will include updates to the Royal Suites located at Mohegan Sun’s Sky Tower.

These are the two grandest suites on the property and are both 3500 square feet with panoramic views of the Thames River, as well as a circular living room, butler service, and Jacuzzis available as another added luxury.

According to sources, more than 20% of the renovation budget will be earmarked for the Royal Suites with a Fire and Water theme that will make each unit separate and distinct from the other.

What’s Coming to Mohegan Sun

A 6500-square-foot VIP lounge will be built in the Casino of the Earth while the Sachem Lounge in the Casino of the Sky will also get a facelift and will see more amenities added.

But the largest portion of the renovation dollars will go towards upgrading the Geoffrey Cornish-designed Mohegan Sun Golf Club. The redesign and updates will be implemented over a three-year period and the course’s maintenance equipment will also be improved.

There will also be brand new dining options added to the more than 40 restaurants currently in operation. These and many more updates will be noticeable in the coming months, so if you are in the Nutmeg State then check out what all the buzz is about.
