Government officials remain confident that the proposed legislation can win the vote on Monday, before going to the House of Lords next month.
A series of significant amendments made during the committee stage, have raised serious doubts whether the Gambling Bill could be terminally delayed or scraped altogether.
The proposed legislation will result in a fundamental difference in the way that the betting industry operates, since it will come under the control of a new Gambling Commission. Although the major changes promised by the legislation concern casinos, one of the more contentious issues is likely to be the regulatory treatment of betting exchanges.
