Kicking King\’s victory in today\’s Gold Cup rewarded five Betfair punters who managed to back the winner at odds of 999-1 on the betting ante-post market.

The horse\’s price drifted hugely earlier this month when it was reported that he was a non-runner following a dirty scope. Ten days later the horse’s condition had improved and he was announced a definite runner.

Punters had a wonderful four days with all the big races showing poor results for the bookmakers, which reported turnover for the four-day Festival up 12 per cent at Â£400 million.

Front-row bookmaker Freddie Williams closed the four days losing £15,000.

“If, on Wednesday night, someone had said you will leave only £15,000 down, I’d have snapped up the offer. I’m looking forward to next year already,” he commented.
