Racing Victoria has introduced a rule that prohibits Victorian bookmakers offering punters tote odds service. The tote odds service has been the single biggest impediment for the NSW Government in signing off on a single pool for the New South Wales and Victoria totalisators. Victorian Bookmaker Association co-chairman, Lyndon Hsu, said it was “disgraceful” to remove a service around which bookies have built business for 10 years. Mr Hsu queried the consistency in the approach by the NSW Government, given interstate and foreign bookmakers could offer a tote odds service. “Gambling markets needed to be opened, not closed,” he added.
