A French court has dismissed a lawsuit by Real Madrid which tried to stop the use of its soccer players\’ names on bookmakers\’ websites.
The club claimed the bookmakers, including BetandWin, Betfair, Ladbrokes, Miapuesta, Mr Bookmaker, Sportingbet and William Hill, were using the names of Real Madrid and of the majority of its players for commercial reasons without authorization.
The bookmakers denied the allegation, arguing that the use of the club\’s name and listing of its players\’ names in bets is factual reporting rather than promotional.
