The state House Gaming Committee passed a bill that would allow a local race track, Canterbury Park, to accept bets placed through the internet.
The Gaming Committee chaired by Rep. Andy Westerberg realized that allowing betting on horses over the internet would have ensured the local racing industry a share of the profits otherwise lost to offshore online bookmakers.
“I tried to get rid of it (gambling) and I was unsuccessful,” commented Rep. Sondra Erickson introducing the bill.
“And everyone else will be too,” she added.
