The bill was introduced by MPP Jeff Leal and aims at prohibiting advertising of unregulated internet gambling.
“The growth of illegal Internet gaming websites, onshore and offshore, is a serious threat to the future viability and integrity of both the horse racing industry and government betting operations,” said Leal.
The Woodbine Entertainment Group estimates that as much as 100 sites take online bets on WEG events without paying into the pools.
Both supporters of the bill and internet gamblers are invited to make a presentation before the standing committee.
