Coates, Chairman of Bet365, said his firm was adopting a “wait and see” approach after the arrest and indictment of the Chief Executive of rival company BetonSports. “The situation is all up in the air, so we will just have to wait and see. I\’m not going to be changing my travel plans,” he said.
Coates also commented on the bill passed last week by the US House of Representatives, which aims to ban all forms of internet gambling except for horse racing, fantasy sports and state lotteries, and said two similar bills had failed in the recent past.
“There is a view that the bill will fail again. It\’s anomalous in that it seeks to allow horse racing and lotteries, but not gaming, and it is our view that it will not be passed,” he said.
Coates confirmed that if such a bill was to pass, it would have a “significant impact” on the multi-billion pound internet gambling market, but declined to reveal the extent of Bet365\’s turnover from the United States.
