The sports betting operator said it was terminating the contract of Chief Executive David Carruthers and removing him as a director as a consequence of his continued detention by US authorities.
“Clearly, while he remains in the custody of the US government he is unable to perform his duties,” the company said in a statement.
BetonSports responded to criticism over Gary Kaplan\’s past conviction for gambling saying: “The board wish to make absolutely clear that none of the founders of the original business has any continuing role with the company.”
The firm also said reports of wild parties involving hookers relate to a time before the company sold shares to the public in July 2004. “Since the time of its public listing, the board believes the company has operated in accordance with the standard expected of a UK PLC which is publicly quoted on AIM on the London Stock Exchange.”
