The bookkepeer who stole more than £1 million from his employees and gambled it on poker, casino, horses and sports through Ladbrokes and Skybet has been jailed for five years. “It says something of the power or the addiction of gambling that despite the low rate of return on your mindless betting you carried on despite the obvious consequences. The ease with which a desperate man addicted to gambling can spend such enormous sums is bluntly staggering,” commented Recorder Andrew Langdon.
