According to the National Post, the advertising relationship between the Edmonton Eskimos, Calgary Stampeders, Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Toronto Argonauts with the online sportsbook Bowmans could violate the Criminal Code of Canada, which states that it is against the law to provide information intended for use in connection with bookmaking.
The four clubs maintained their advertising relationships with Bowmans despite the league ceased to be involved with the online sportsbook this season. Bowmans was in fact the sponsor of the Canadian Football League in 2004 and 2005.
The CFL, whose current sponsor is free-to-play website PartyPoker.net, said it would not intervene in its clubs\’ advertising relationships unless a deal was determined to be detrimental to the league.
