Ekasa is a Basque-based gaming company that has been operating on the Spanish betting market since 2002 under its retail brand RETA. BetFred is UK\’s largest independent bookmaker with more than 600 shops. Under the terms of the deal, the two companies will apply to operate a number of high street betting shops in anticipation of betting being legalized in the Basque and Madrid regions before the end of the year.
“This strategic alliance is yet another exciting step for me and all the team at Betfred. It looks like it could become very big but there is a lot of work to be done,” commented Fred Done. “We were approached by EKASA about six months ago when it became clear that the laws may be changed. We have the expertise to run betting shops, and they know the Spanish market and the Spanish people.”
