Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin confirmed the story reported by the Telegraph about the betting exchange being in discussion with the owners of Timeform to buy the popular horse racing publisher.

According to the Telegraph, the £15m deal, which is expected to be completed next week, would allow Timeform to upgrade its technology and further expand its horse racing database and publications.

Elsewhere, the management of the new betting exchange wbx.com was pleased with the 4,000 accounts opened on the first day of trading, despite the fact that markets\’ liquidity was rather sparse. WBX spokesman Ed Nicholson said plans were in place to introduce in-running betting and place markets, along with betting on greyhound racing.

The Independent reports that private equity firms CVC Capital Partners, BC Partners and Blackstone have once again showed an interest in Ladbrokes, which has been at £3.5bn against a market value of £2.5bn.
