The news announced by Chancellor Gordon Brown in his Budget speech came as a disappointment to the numerous industry commentators that had hoped a competitive tax rate would have encouraged offshore betting firms to relocate to the UK. John Coates, Chairman of the Remore Gambling Association, said immediartely that this decision meant the UK had effectively turned its back on the online betting industry.
