We’re back for another exciting week in the PGA Tour’s fall series, and this time it’s a brand-new stop on the calendar: the Black Desert Championship. Making its debut, this tournament marks the first time in 60 years that the PGA Tour has teed it up in Utah.
With a fresh venue and unique conditions, this event promises plenty of intrigue as players adjust to the high-altitude course and the challenge of navigating the striking Black Desert terrain. Before placing your bets, let’s dive into the latest odds from the top-rated sportsbooks.
Black Desert Championship 2024
October 10 – 13, 2024 at Black Desert Resort Golf Course
How Do We Solve the Utah Puzzle?
The Korn Ferry Tour has hosted the long-standing Utah Championship, and we will look to that for clues along with current form and players who thrive at altitude.
The golf ball will fly approx. 5% further through the air, so finding players who are capable of judging that change this week will be also something to utilize.
There are residents of Utah or players with ties to the State, to consider, such as Patrick Fishburn, Roger Sloan, and Zac Blair.
The late Tom Weiskopf is the designer, and he was responsible for the TPC Scottsdale, the Stadium Course which hosts the Phoenix Open.
Course Notes
- Black Desert Resort Golf Course
- Par 71, 7371 yards
- Designer – Tom Weiskopf
- 3000 feet above sea level.
- A brand-new track created amongst a lava field and spectacular to the eye.
- The course should play on the easy side given the fairways are an average width.
- Bentgrass Greens.
Take a Chance With Coody
As much as Utah native Patrick Fishburn tempted me given his respectable record in the State, winning the Utah Amateur Championship of 2016 and being runner up in the KFT Utah Championship in 2022, his prohibitive price puts me off.
With so many unknown variables this week, I prefer the bigger priced Pierceson Coody who has a strong record in Utah.
Yes, we must forgive him a missed cut last week at the Sanderson Farms Championship, but he is long off the tee and a strong putter ideally suited to low-scoring set ups.
The twenty-four-year-old Texan has been a multiple winner at all levels so far in his career and has some strong Utah form in that KFT event, with back-to-back top 10 finishes on both occasions that he teed it up there in 2022 and 2023.
Keep stakes small this week and take Pierceson Coody to win his maiden PGA Tour title as he continues his impressive climb through the top level of golf.

Can We Trust Patton Kizzire Again?
Yes, at BMR, we are happy to trust Patton Kizzire once again after last week’s 11th-place finish at the Sanderson Farms Championship.
The 11th place finish, one shot outside the top 10, was a costly one for readers and followers who were on at (+600) along with his outright price of (+6600).
That effort, however, was a very solid one for the thirty-eight-year-old from Alabama who three weeks previous had won the Procore Championship for his first win in over six years on the PGA Tour.
The three weeks break after that Procore win, gave Kizzire the opportunity to let the euphoria of that win leave his system, so there was nothing negative in the finishing position except the variance of being unlucky.
Utah is a very unique state, and over the years golfers either love or hate it! In Kizzire’s case, he has good memories to fall back on, given he won the Utah Championship of 2015 on the KFT Tour.
Kizzire has some creditable performances at altitude over the years in the Phoenix Open (Weiskopf design at altitude) and Truckee only a couple of months ago when he finished 8th at the Barracuda Championship.
At BMR, we are happy to trust Patton Kizzire once again, as we take him in the win and top 10 markets while also adding him as a top 20 selection at BetOnline who have a fantastic range of props markets to spread the wager into.
