Editor’s Note 3/19: Cooper Kupp has signed with the Seattle Seahawks.

Offshore sportsbooks have posted odds for the next team to claim Kupp for the 2025 season. Some teams you might expect in the running for him include the Bills and Chargers in the AFC, but there could be some other interesting fits.

Let’s look at what could be the most likely fits and some more wild card picks for where Kupp will be catching passes in the 2025 Super Bowl chase.

Kupp turns 32 in June and lost his role as the No. 1 receiver to Puka Nacua in Los Angeles. But even if his best years are behind him, Kupp can still help a contender or a team with a young quarterback get on the right track. So, you can expect there will be teams interested either in a trade or as a free agent if the Rams end up cutting the veteran soon.

Most Likely Team: Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers never really had a shot at getting Matthew Stafford from the Rams, but maybe they can get one of his favorite receivers in Kupp. The Steelers made it widely known they were in the wide receiver market for the last year, getting linked to numerous wideouts in trades from Brandon Aiyuk to Davante Adams. They even traded for Mike Williams from the Jets during the 2024 season.

Basically, the Steelers traded away Diontae Johnson last year and it never made much sense nor did they have a great backup plan. It hurt them throughout the season as George Pickens was their only real threat at wideout, and he isn’t even a consistent talent you can rely on every week. He has some immaturity flaws that maybe a leader like Kupp can help with, and Mike Tomlin has really lacked a good veteran leader among his wide receivers for years now.

But the Steelers can’t keep expecting to build around No. 2 wideouts like Calvin Austin and Van Jefferson if they want to become a legitimate contender again. They need more weapons for whoever they decide to start at quarterback in 2025. Kupp is the type of great route runner this offense needs.

Good Fit: Buffalo Bills

While the Bills had a good offense last year, it’s hard to say they don’t need any upgrades at wide receiver. Keon Coleman was only a rookie, Curtis Samuel didn’t give them much, and Amari Cooper was a bit of an in-season trade bust for them.

They have Khalil Shakir, but they could primarily use him in the slot for advantageous matchups while playing Kupp and Coleman on the outside in 2025. That should work better than the setup they had last year, and Kupp could also play in the slot of course.

The Bills had a lot of success years ago with Cole Beasley in the slot, but Kupp is a much bigger target with a solid 5-to-6 inch advantage over Beasley. His only real issue is durability. But he’d be a good fit in Buffalo, which could still use some playmakers to make sure they can finally outscore the Chiefs in a postseason game.

Awkward Fit: Los Angeles Chargers

A year ago, it would have been incredible to bring Cooper Kupp to the other Los Angeles team with Justin Herbert and the Chargers. But after nailing their draft pick of Ladd McConkey, it’s hard to say the need or fit is still there in 2025.

Sure, Herbert needs another reliable target as the season proved McConkey is about the only one he can trust right now. But McConkey and Kupp play the game a bit too similarly for this to really work.

Still, if the price is right in a trade, it might not hurt to explore the possibility of getting him in LA, especially if it means he doesn’t go to another AFC contender, including one in the same division (Broncos or even Chiefs).

Team to Keep an Eye On: Denver Broncos

The Broncos will be looking for bigger and better things in 2025 after making the playoffs in Bo Nix’s rookie season at quarterback. He played well down the stretch, but the offense looked limited against the big-time offenses in the AFC, and they’ll need a little more firepower to keep up in those games.

Kupp could be a solid addition to an offense coached by Sean Payton, who is used to slotting his receivers into well-defined roles going back to his days in New Orleans. He could see Kupp as his Lance Moore or Michael Thomas type of slot receiver, a reliable target with size for the young Nix.

Some sportsbooks, like BetOnline (visit our BetOnline review), have given the Broncos odds as high as +300 to land Kupp, so they are definitely a team to keep an eye on for him.

Ship May Have Sailed: Washington Commanders

Another team that previously had good odds to land Kupp was the Washington Commanders, but that ship may have sailed over the weekend after they acquired Deebo Samuel from the 49ers for just a fifth-round pick.

Samuel can play from the slot and provide plenty of YAC plays for the Commanders while they still have Terry McLaurin as their outside No. 1 wide receiver. They should turn their attention towards beefing up the defense now.

Best NFC Fit: Dallas Cowboys

Oddsmakers seem to think Detroit is the NFC destination for Kupp this year, perhaps because he used to have a good connection with quarterback Jared Goff when he was with the Rams. But don’t forget the Lions still have Jameson Williams under contract for at least one more year behind Amon-Ra St. Brown.

The Cowboys are lacking in weapons after CeeDee Lamb, and the addition of Kupp for new coach Brian Schottenheimer could be a good one as he tries to get Dak Prescott more help than Jalen Tolbert and Brandin Cooks. In fact, the addition of Kupp would be a good thing to help Lamb move around the field more freely as both can play outside and in the slot.

Jerry Jones’ team was criticized for not spending much of anything in free agency a year ago because they didn’t have the money available. They’ll be pressured to make more moves after finishing 7-10 this past season.

Kupp in Big D is a real possibility.
