This week Torrey Pines hosts the Farmers Insurance Open and they will utilize both North and South courses for the opening two days, with the final two post-cut rounds being held at the better-known South Course, a track used recently for U.S. Opens.
The South Course, set high on the cliff tops overlooking the Pacific, has long been respected as one of the most challenging tests for all aspects of a golfer and, if the weather is inclement, it can be a brutal one on occasion.

Will Zalatoris Finally Win the Farmers?
Back in 2022, Will Zalatoris was agonizingly close to winning the Farmer Insurance Open when losing a sudden death playoff to Luke List.
Three years later, the twenty-eight-year-old local lad has a chance of redemption as he rebuilds his career after losing a full year’s play due to a back operation to treat herniated discs. This effectively meant last year was one of recuperation for his body as he slowly got back into the grind of tournament golf.
Interestingly, Zalatoris has strengthened up and bulked up considerably during the off-season, stating that he was fed up of people commenting on his wiry appearance and 22-inch waist. He has also cited how he needed to have a better constitution for the PGA Tour, as fatigue has accounted for his efforts weakening when playing a run of events, identifying his initial week would often be his best.
There has been repeated encouragement in his 2025 efforts that Will Zalatoris is returning to the form of 2022 that saw him reach a world ranking high of #7 with a maiden win at the FedEx St. Jude. On the other hand, Zalatoris has always looked comfortable playing at Torrey Pines with three top-13 finishes in recent years.

PGA journeyman pro Sam Ryder has contended at the Farmers Insurance Open twice in recent seasons, resulting in top-10 finishes. With that in mind, last week’s 29th place finish at the American Express was an eye-catching one, announcing that the thirty-five-year-old from Florida could be primed to contend again.
Historically, Ryder is one of the best putters on the PGA Tour and looked in good form with the flatstick last week.
