Jake “The Problem Child” Paul

Jake Paul was originally scheduled to fight Mike Tyson on July 20, but as the heavyweight legend dealt with an “ulcer flare-up,” it was postponed to a later date in November. This, however, didn’t stop “The Problem Child” and his team from seeking out a new opponent, and the hunt for blood resulted in Mike Perry signing on the dotted.

The opponent’s choice doesn’t come as a surprise. Paul has bullied former UFC stars since he realized it was an easy path to bragging rights and that these stylistic fights would give him a huge advantage. Octagon striking doesn’t translate into the boxing ring, and as of 2024, Paul is 5-0 against former MMA stars.

There is one key difference between Perry and Paul’s other battles with mixed martial artists, and that’s age. Perry is only 32, whereas the previous foes have all been reaching 40 or above. Still, some things never change, as the Ohio native will have a significant size advantage, as he ultimately thrives when positioning himself with as many variables in his favor as possible.

Mike “Platinum” Perry

Listen, no disrespect to Mike Perry; the guy grew his name as a UFC athlete, and despite leaving the promotion with a losing record, he used his name value and transitioned to bare-knuckle boxing. The BKFC isn’t the same as pro boxing, though, and Perry’s lone boxing bout – 10 years ago – resulted in a KO/TKO loss to a journeyman.

Perry holds a 5-0 unblemished record in BKFC, but again, this organization’s boxing style emphasizes aggression and toughness rather than the technical aspect of boxing. “Platinum” won’t be lost in the squared circle, he’s a combat sports athlete, but the experience levels, age, size, and power of Paul should be a concern for him and his team.

Skillset Analysis: Paul and Perry Inside the Ring

Is Perry the most aggressive opponent Paul has ever fought? Yes! Will Perry constantly walk Paul down and draw him into a dog fight? Yes! Does this type of game plan work for inexperienced boxers? No.

One of the biggest red flags for Perry would be the tendency he has to drop his hands. Egging his opponents to forget defense and just trade blows might work in BKFC or even the UFC, but he’s going to learn quickly that Paul’s six years of training haven’t been for anything, and Paul will also be one of the biggest men he’s ever fought.

Paul and Perry might weigh the same on the scale (200lbs), but come fight, don’t be surprised if Paul is walking around at 215-220lbs. The “Problem Child” was previously bulking up to fight a heavyweight in Tyson, and now he’ll put his power to the test versus an opponent that’s never fought above 185.

The physicality Perry thrives on in Bare Knuckle will be stripped. He’s now wearing gloves, where defense is key, and technical ability reigns supreme. “Platinum” won’t be able to cut, bruise, and damage Paul as he has done to his BKFC opponents, and we shouldn’t be shocked if Paul has his way at the range or on the inside, with significantly more years of training, as well as a significant size advantage.

Jake Paul by KO: The Paul vs. Perry Best Bet Formula

The available boxing odds at Bookmakers Review have placed Paul as a huge betting favorite, and rightfully so. Not only does Perry lack experience in the squared circle, but he’s also a lot smaller and has never fought at this weight or against an opponent as big as Paul.

Paul’s ego becomes a little bigger this weekend as the age, weight, and size bully continues fooling the world that he’s capable of challenging for the boxing world title. He’ll never win a world title in pro boxing, but he’s undoubtedly skilled enough to overcome former MMA stars like Perry, and the unfair power advantage will hand him another knockout win.
