Los Angeles Lakers vs. Indiana Pacers

Wednesday, March 26, 2025 – 07:30 PM EDT at Gainbridge Fieldhouse

Lakers in Trouble?

After acquiring Luka Doncic, the Lakers looked like they were headed straight towards the Western Conference finals. However, a recent three-game losing streak has made everybody question the Lakers’ ability to get things done against top teams. After losing the last two in a homestand, the Lakers hit the road on Monday and lost 118-106 to the Orlando Magic. Now, they hope to end their losing streak against a team that can’t stop winning, the Indiana Pacers.

The Pacers have won five games in a row, including a decisive 119-103 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night. This game will be the last of a five-game homestand for the Pacers. The Pacers like to get out and run, and will beat you with their elite offensive play.

After a terrible start to the season, Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton is back to his normal self, leading the way with points and assists. Halliburton had 24 points and 11 assists in the victory over the Timberwolves. The Pacers are looking to stay in the top four in the East, and need every win they can get.

The Lakers still struggle with depth and rebounding. Although the trade for Luka Doncic was a no-brainer, they did sacrifice size and defense for this season. The Magic were able to take advantage of that by out rebounding the Lakers in their win. However, the Pacers are a smaller team, and the Lakers’ size disadvantage won’t be nearly as obvious tonight.

Pacers on Fire

The advantage the Pacers will have is their youth and quickness. The Pacers are much younger and play much faster than the Lakers. Which team will be able to impose their style of play on the other? A Lakers style game will be more slow-paced and feature more half court play. The Pacers will have a huge advantage if they can make this game a track meet, running up and down the floor in constant fast break situations.

As good as the Lakers looked right after the trade, I am concerned about their recent run of play. The Pacers have been excellent at home and are playing some of their best basketball of the season right now. I think the Lakers will struggle on this road trip and then rip off a bunch of wins once they get back to Los Angeles. Yet, for now, we will continue to fade them. Take the Indiana Pacers.

Boston Celtics vs. Phoenix Suns

Wednesday, March 26, 2025 – 10:00 PM EDT at PHX Arena

Streaks on the Line

The Phoenix Suns season looked to be a disaster, however, a recent stretch of strong play has the fans believing again. The Suns have won four in a row, including quality wins over the Cleveland Cavaliers and Milwaukee Bucks. Now, they face another top Eastern Conference team, the Boston Celtics. Not only do the Celtics have a better team, but they come in on an even better winning streak. The Celtics have won six in a row and are 9-1 over their last 10 games.

It doesn’t matter who’s in and out of the lineup, the Celtics continue to win. Most recently, Jaylen Brown had to miss some games, however, the Celtics did not miss a beat. For tonight’s game, Jayson Tatum and Al Horford are on the injury report. However, the Celtics have so much depth, even if these top players sit, the Celtics still have a great chance to get the win and cover the spread.

The Celtics shoot the highest amount of threes per game, averaging 54% of their shot attempts from behind the arc. This will test Phoenix’s perimeter defense. Kevin Durant will test the Celtics’ defense. Durant has been unstoppable as of late. Durant put up 42 points in the win over the Cleveland Cavaliers and then followed that up with 38 points in the win over Milwaukee. Durant is too old to take a year off and miss the playoffs, so he has been instrumental in the Suns’ push to stay alive for the postseason.

Can the Suns Handle the Celtics?

Although the Celtics are the much more talented team, and have much better depth, Phoenix can pose a problem for anybody. Both Kevin Durant and Devin Booker are tough to stop in half court situations, even against elite defense.

This will be an interesting matchup, especially for a Boston team that seems to be more concerned with health than playing their top players. Yet Boston has been able to get wins even when some of their key pieces miss time. So, even if Tatum is out tonight, the Celtics are still alive to get the win.

I like the Suns’ recent stretch of play to continue. The Suns will keep this close and could potentially win outright. The Suns have their back against the wall; they are essentially in playoff mode now. The Celtics are cruising towards the finish line and will not be too worried if they drop this game. The Phoenix Suns will keep this one close and cover the spread. Take the Phoenix Suns.
