Los Angeles Lakers vs. Detroit Pistons

Monday, November 04, 2024 – 07:30 PM ET at Little Caesars Arena

The Los Angeles Lakers open their first road trip of the season with two losses before getting a 131-125 win over the Toronto Raptors on Friday night. After a full weekend of rest, the Lakers will take the floor in Detroit with a chance to get their second road win of the year. LA will face a test against the up-and-coming Detroit team.

The Pistons will be at a significant rest disadvantage after defeating the Brooklyn Nets 106-92 yesterday. The Pistons used a balanced attack in that game as they had six players scoring double figures to get the win. Team leader Cade Cunningham led the team with 19 points.

Cunningham is the key to the Pistons development. The Pistons are currently building around Cunningham and will need him to develop into a top 10 player if they are going to become a true contender. The Pistons are still in the early stages of this development but have shown promising signs so far.

Lakers Expected to Dominate

Unfortunately for Detroit, the talent on the Los Angeles side will be too much for them to handle tonight on a rest disadvantage. Anthony Davis should be too much for even promising center Jalen Duren to handle, and this should be the key to the game.

After a couple of disappointing seasons, the Lakers are excited with this current core and are playing better basketball than we have seen from the team since they won the championship in 2020.

At the current line of -6, the Lakers are the play here. Look for the Lakers to prove once again why they are a true championship contender this year and dispatch the developing Pistons in a blowout win.

New York Knicks vs. Houston Rockets

Monday, November 04, 2024 – 08:45 PM ET at Toyota Center

The New York Knicks are coming off a 30-point win against the Detroit Pistons and have won two road games in a row. The Knicks defeated the Miami Heat by 9 points on Wednesday night before defeating the Pistons on Friday.

The Knicks are 3-2 on the year in spite of being sixth in the league and points against at 109. Their opponent tonight, the Houston Rockets are 8th in the league at points against at 109.5. Which team will be more stout defensively tonight? This will be the key to tonight’s game.

The Rockets’ Resilience

Houston had won two games in a row over quality opponents before their overtime loss on Saturday night to the Golden State Warriors. At one point in that game, the Warriors led by 31 points. The Rockets did not give up and fought back to force overtime. Even though the game ended in a loss for Houston, the team and coaching staff have to be encouraged by the effort the team showed with the “Never Say Die” effort they gave against Golden State.

Houston is still a relatively young team. Houston is led by Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun, who are both in their fourth seasons in the league. Third-year player Jabari Smith starts at forward. The team also gives a lot of minutes to second-year player Amen Thompson, who is an excellent defender. The veteran leadership on the team is provided by Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks.

Key Matchup: Brooks vs. Brunson

The Rockets will need a strong effort from Dillon Brooks as he will be responsible for defending the Knicks leading scorer Jalen Brunson. Brunson has been the key to the Knicks’ offense and has turned the team into a true contender. Brunson is helped by new addition Karl-Anthony Towns. Towns started slow but has exploded offensively recently and is showing why the Knicks made the move to add his versatile offensive game to their defensive-minded lineup.

I like the Rockets to bounce back at home here. Coming off that tough loss, we should see a focused effort from Houston, who should be eager to wash the taste of defeat out of their mouth. Take the Rockets to cover the short spread of +3.5.
