Top NHL Pick: Stars/Maple Leafs Under 6 Goals (+100) at BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review)
NHL action continues tonight with an almost full card of action, as no less than 13 games take place. Heading into tonight’s games, we can see we have plenty of games to choose from at the top-rated sportsbooks, but two bets quickly stood out for us when comparing the NHL betting odds.
Firstly, we believe the Blue Jackets are worth a bet as home underdogs, whilst the second game of the night takes us to Toronto hosting the Dallas Stars, with a cagey affair expected.
Philadelphia Flyers vs. Columbus Blue Jackets
Tuesday, January 14, 2025 – 07:00 PM ET at Nationwide Arena
Blue Jackets To Keep Rolling at Home
Having won six of their previous seven home games, the Columbus Blue Jackets will fancy their chances of going 7 for 8 tonight. We very much like the fact that they are getting the home underdog tag here, something we totally disagree with.
The Philadelphia Flyers have only won three of their previous ten games. Two of those victories came against the San Jose Sharks and Anaheim Ducks. Interestingly, the third was a win against the Blue Jackets, but we don’t believe they can go back-to-back in Columbus.
The Blue Jackets are rolling hot right now, having gone on a four-game winning streak, whilst the Flyers won last time out for the first time in four games.
Philadelphia & Columbus’ Trends & Facts
- The Columbus Blue Jackets have gone 6-1 in their previous seven home games.
- The Philadelphia Flyers have gone 3-7 in their previous ten road games.
- The Blue Jackets have gone 16-8-3 overall this season when underdogs.
The Pick
This is possibly the easiest underdog pick of the season. Even if the Blue Jackets lose this one, it’s a solid bet. There is no way the Blue Jackets should be underdogs here, and although it’s only slightly, it’s still value, as we believed that Columbus could be in around -120 to win this game.
Possibly, the few injuries Columbus has (including Sean Monahan) could be the reason for the odds, but we still aren’t buying it, so give us Columbus in this one as underdogs on home ice.

Dallas Stars vs. Toronto Maple Leafs
Tuesday, January 14, 2025 – 07:00 PM ET at Scotiabank Arena
Similar Records
Both the Toronto Maple Leafs and Dallas Stars head into this game having had very similar records. Toronto sits with a 27-15-2 overall record whilst the Stars have a 27-13-1 overall record.
Coming into this matchup, the Leafs have gone 6-4 in their last 10 but will be badly seeking a win here having gone 0-2 in their previous 2 games. The Stars are in much better shape, having gone 8-2 in their last 10. They are currently on a seven-game winning streak (although it must be noted three of their previous four games went to overtime).
As for our NHL betting pick, we believe the under is the best way to go here and both these teams have some nice Under Stats & Trends. Both teams have seen the majority of their games go under the total, with the Dallas Stars going 24-12-6 to the under and the Toronto Maple Leafs 22-19-3 to the under.
Dallas & Toronto Trends & Facts
- The total has gone Under in 4 of Dallas’ last 5 games.
- The total has gone Under in 6 of Dallas’ last 7 games when there was no favorite.
- The total has gone Under in 14 of Toronto’s last 20 games at home.
The Pick
Two strong teams come head to head. Judging by the stats and trends, both like an Under game. Both teams are due an Under matchup, having had 8 and 9 goals scored in their previous two games.
That said, 7 of the previous 10 meetings between the teams at the Scotiabank Arena have seen Under 6 goals scored, and for +100 NHL betting odds, we believe this is the best line to take.
