Things have not gone to plan for Connor McDavid and co in their first Stanley Cup finals as they now head into game number 4 with a 3-0 series deficit.

Never in the history of the Stanley Cup finals has a team gone from 3-0 down to come back and win 4-3.

It’s a must-win game for the Oilers tonight on home soil or else the Florida Panthers will be Stanley Cup champions after finishing runners-up last season.

Florida Panthers vs. Edmonton Oilers

Saturday, June 15, 2024 – 08:00 PM ET at Rogers Place

Can Edmonton Turn Things Around?

Realistically the chances of Edmonton turning this 3-0 series deficit around to become Stanley Cup champions is very slim. They would have to win four games in a row with two of those games guaranteed to be on that road. They have been poor as it is playing away from home this post-season with a 6-5 record, but it must be noted that the Oilers are only 2-5 on the road when playing against a team who is better than them defensively (Florida and Dallas).

Of course the Oilers can grab a win at home tonight and cause an upset on the road in game five to make things 3-2 and give the Panthers a scare, but we feel this Panthers team has the measure of the Oilers having won their previous five games against them.

The Panthers finished runners-up last season and we believe this experience of having played in the finals has helped them massively this post-season and why we believe they will eventually be crowned Stanley Cup champions.

All or Nothing

Edmonton has nothing to lose at this stage of the finals, and they have the players and ability to win at least one game of this series, and we believe their best chance to do so will be in tonight’s matchup, which will likely be their final game on home ice this season.

There will be talks floating around that the Panthers won’t try as hard tonight because they will want to win game number five on home ice but we don’t believe any of that nonsense, they won’t want to risk the Oilers getting back into this series by giving up a win.

Our sole reason for liking the Oilers to win tonight’s game is motivation to not be swept 4-0 in a Stanley Cup finals, especially when they have the best player in the league. Not only do we think they might/can win, but we also fancy them to potentially cover the PK line, which is our favorite pick for tonight’s game and coming in at some really nice value.

The Pick

The Oilers are -110 NHL odds to win tonight’s game on the moneyline, which is better odds than the previous home game that saw them as low as -130, having lost that game and not looking likely to win a single game in the finals, the top sportsbooks have given us better odds on the moneyline. But for us, if we are taking the Oilers to win, we believe the massive odds at +210 on the -1.5 PK line is much better value and we would happily bet this number down to as low as +190.

If Edmonton is a goal up, it’s very likely they will score an empty netter towards the end, and if not they could just run away with tonight’s game in general. Although their star players haven’t shown up in this series, they still have the ability and potential to put a few goals past this Panthers team and let’s be honest, the Panthers are almost due a poor game having been so solid throughout these playoffs.
