Two teams of twelve players compete in a four-day event that sees day 1 and day 2 contain five foursomes and five fourballs, which way around is still to be decided.  Day 3 sees four foursomes and four fourballs followed by the fourth and final day having all twelve players from each side competing in singles matches. Can the Internationals Serve It up to the USA?

The Presidents Cup was founded in 1994 as a team matchplay event played every two years, and the United States has been the proud holder since 2000.  There is no doubt, that the International Team needs to show its teeth soon otherwise the contest may never catch on like the Ryder Cup.

Perhaps this is the year when that happens because it appears to me the International team has much in their favor this year.

Will Home Advantage in Canada help?

Yes, there are several reasons why home advantage is a real positive for the Internationals this time around and let’s look at why.

The non-playing captain, Mike Weir is not only a former Masters champion but Canadian and we’ve seen how partizan the Canadian crowds can be at their Canadian Open which has one of the best atmospheres on the PGA Tour.

Controversially, Weir left out Cameron Davis, which was very unlucky for the young Aussie, but it means the crowd has three home players taking part, Corey Conners, Mackenzie Hughes, and Taylor Pendrith.

Weir showed his intent by leaving out Davis and opting for an extra home player and who can blame him as it amplifies any home advantage if the crowd passionately gets behind the Internationals.

This year is undoubtedly the International team’s best chance for several years, and the United States players except for Max Homa and Sahith Theegala are coming off several weeks of inactivity.

Compare that with the International Team, who last week had Adam Scott, Si Woo Kim, and Byeong Hun An all competing over on the DP World Tour in their flagship event, the BMW PGA where they all shook off any rust.

Yes, in answer to the initial question, there are several reasons why the International Team go into this year’s match with their best chance of recent history.

How Do They Bet the Presidents Cup?

What Team Will the Course Suit the Most?

The fiddly nature of the Royal Montreal Golf Club can only bring the teams closer together and level the field slightly. Everyone knows on world rankings the United States has the best players but this type of setup is like those peculiar tests of strategy seen at Hilton Head Island for the Heritage and the Hawaii track used for the Sony Open.

The track should not suit one side more than the other, but the tactical nature of the test nullifies some of the United States team strengths that are more suited to the longer championship tests of skill, so possibly another factor in the favour of the International’s.
