Are you ready for some sports entertainment?! Super Bowl LIX is here to consume our souls for the next two weeks, dividing our nation into red states populated by Kansas City fans, and green states cheering for Philadelphia. Pick a side, we’re at war.
Then you have the thin line between sports and commerce. According to a YouGov poll for last year’s Big Game, only 57% of Americans who planned on watching were there for the football; 52% wanted to see the Super Bowl ads, and 40% were looking forward to the Halftime Show – pardon me, the Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show.
Once you accept that everything you see February 9 at Super Bowl LIX is designed to extract maximum dollars from your wallet and/or purse, betting on Super Bowl props is like being a kid in a candy store. We’ll hit up those NFL player props in a moment, but first, we need to hammer that National Anthem prop at Bovada (visit our Bovada Review), where Jon Batiste is looking at a total of 120.5 seconds with the Over pegged at –180 as we go to press.
Make sure to take a look at our YouTube channel for alternative betting angles.

Why Bet the Over?
There are three very important things to consider when you bet on the National Anthem prop.
Let’s start with the “Bleeding Gums” Murphy Rule: Give an entertainer a mic, and they’ll take a mile. There are exceptions, but this is Jon Batiste we’re dealing with here. Of course, he’s going to milk it for all it’s worth on the biggest stage in television.
Looking at Batiste’s previous performances of The Star-Spangled Banner, most of them clock in at around 2:00, although there was a particularly jazzy one at the 2015 Aspen Ideas Festival that would have made Murphy proud. It was piano only, but Batiste stretched it out closer to 2:30 – make it 2:15ish if you chop off the intro, as per the prop terms at Bovada for Batiste’s vocal performance on Super Bowl Sunday.
The second very important thing to consider is whether the performer in question is a crooner or a belter. You gotta have that lung capacity (and a strong VO2 max) if you wanna extend those notes. But you also need that third very important thing: the right range for the song.
Like most of us, Batiste (E2-C6, according to Singing Carrots) has to change keys and sing lower in his range to get through The Star-Spangled Banner (G3-D5) without cracking. That meant more crooning than belting at the 2017 NBA All-Star Game, and a sub-2:00 performance despite the piano flourishes.
Again, it’s the Super Bowl, so we’re still gleefully putting the Over in our NFL picks, but make it a smaller bet just in case.

What About Player Props?
Okay, football fans, time for some leather.
Mash that Player Props button at Bookmakers Review, and you’ll find Super Bowl props for 30 different players as we go to press. Make a beeline directly to Kansas City QB Patrick Mahomes and check out his Passing Yards total of 252.5; that’s up from his regular-season average of 245.5 this year (211.0 in these playoffs), and Mahomes will be facing the league’s top-ranked pass defense at minus-0.08 EPA according to nfelo.
In theory, the Under should have betting value for pretty much every Kansas City player when it comes to their Passing Yards prop, but Mahomes and TE Travis Kelce (Total: 64.5 yards) are the most likely candidates to be overvalued by the larger betting public –and it doesn’t get any larger than the Super Bowl.
Bet accordingly.
Quarterbacks’ Total Passing Yards
Quarterbacks | Total Passing Yards | Price | Offered by |

Jalen Hurts | Over 210.5 | -115
Under 210.5 | -115 | ||
Patrick Mahomes | Over 251.5 | -115
Under 251.5 | -115 |
