- It is not one of the classical open tests but like all golf links, it is susceptible to the natural coastal elements.
- Positioning off the tee can be fundamental to the golfers’ chances with thick, rough, and hidden bunkering to catch any shots offline.
- An interesting correlation to consider is the results here at Troon with leaderboards at the TPC Sawgrass for the Players Championship.
- The other noticeable correlation is the Phoenix Open where Mark Calcavecchia was a three-time winner.
- Like TPC Sawgrass’s iconic 17th hole, Royal Troon’s signature is the par-3 eight hole which is nicknamed “the Postage Stamp” and is only 120 yards.

Currently, the Ayrshire coast in west Scotland looks set for some challenging wet and windy weather for the Open Championship.
Is Brooks the Forgotten Man?
There is no better closer to major championships than Brooks Koepka who has three PGA and two U.S. Opens tucked away in his locker.
The thirty-four-year-old from Florida has a strong record across all the majors and his Open record is sneaky good too with four top 10 finishes in the last decade. The previous Royal Troon Open in 2016, was the one he missed but that does not worry me. In Koepka’s case, his major championship consistency added to the Phoenix Open record which correlates well with former winners here.
Last week, the LIV Tour event at Valderrama saw Koepka slowly out of the blocks but he grinded himself up the leaderboard as the event went on. There is no doubt that Koepka treats the week before the major championship as preparation and despite being LIV’s biggest winner with five events, he subconsciously tries to peak at the week after.

Why Louis Is Under the Radar?
South African LIV Golf defector arrives at Royal Troon totally under the radar.
Since his defection to the Saudi-backed tour, the forty-one-year-old has fallen down the world rankings and hence has not played in the other three major championships this year.
The Open Championship, however, is a different kettle of fish as Oosthuizen has no problem qualifying because he won the 2010 Open at St. Andrews.
Last week at Valderrama “Oosty” was his usual steady self, finishing fourth for his fifth top 10 in ten LIV Golf Tour events.
That suggests a player in good form and at the turn of the year, he was allowed to play back-to-back events in South Africa on the D.P. World Tour, both of which he won.
