Our professional golf bettor, Craig Edwards, brings readers his best bets for this week’s flagship event on the PGA Tour, the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.

Let’s take a look at his analysis before heading to the top-rated sportsbooks.

THE PLAYERS Championship 2025

March 13- March 16, 2025

The Players Championship is golf’s unofficial fifth major championship. It is played at the iconic TPC Sawgrass and its infamous par 3 17th, where the island green has sunk many a challenge over the years.

A marvelous test where they can go very low, but the danger of a double or treble bogey lurks around every corner. The event has produced an eclectic mix of champions, and remarkably, last year was the first time ever that the winner was the defending champion, meaning Scottie Scheffler goes for an unprecedented third in succession, which would see him join only the great Jack Nicklaus as a three-time winner of the Players Championship.

Course Notes

  • Design – Pete Dye
  • Par 72, 7245 yards
  • Challenging test where accuracy tee to green is fundamental allied with patience and strong strategic course management.

TifEagle Bermuda greens and Celebration Bermuda fairways weave between the water hazards of Ponte Vedra Beach. And with a windy forecast next weekend for TPC Sawgrass, we could see the track at its most challenging for an exciting culmination on Sunday as the ultra-slick greens crust up.

Recent Players’ Champions

Straka the Standout

The standout bet for this week’s Players Championship looks to be a thirty-one-year-old Austrian by the name of Sepp Straka. His game and mentality tick every box as an identikit winner of the Players Championship, the flagship event on the PGA Tour.

Tee to green, he is solid, long and reliable. A great putter and a strong mindset with real bottle under pressure, as his three PGA Tour titles and clutch Ryder Cup debut illustrates

Consider his past performances on this unique track, where he finished 16th last year and 9th in 2022, along with his strong record on TPC stadium courses. Notably, he secured his third victory at this level earlier this year at the American Express, held at the Stadium Course at PGA West.

Over the years, there have been similar types of no-fuss overseas players who excel here, such as Stephen Ames, Tim Clark, K.J. Choi and Martin Kaymer, to name a few.

We believe Sepp Straka has a great profile to win this week’s Players Championship.

Why Consider Doug Ghim at Sawgrass?

There is a player lurking in left field this week who really likes the unique test that TPC Sawgrass is and currently looks like huge value in the abundant selection of props markets. Let’s take a look at the case for Doug Ghim, followed by what markets to attack for the twenty-eight-year-old from Illinois.

As mentioned, the unique test of the Players Championship has often given the ordinary journeyman of the PGA Tour a level playing field with the stars. Players like Scott Hoch, Jim Furyk, Fred Funk, Jerry Kelly and Jeff Maggert, to name a few, have excelled with their neat and tidy consistent tee-to-green games. What those players (with the exception of Furyk) had in common was that they were all below-average putters, and indeed, Ghim fits that trend, currently ranked 182nd.

Ghim has had a respectable campaign so far, and interestingly, his best week was his last one at the Cognizant Classic where he was 11th. Combine that with Ghim’s previous form in the Players Championship, where he has 2 of his top-4 career best efforts in 2022 and 2024, when he finished 6th and 16th, respectively.

It’s a huge task for a PGA Tour maiden to win his first tournament at the Players Championship, so the best markets to take Doug Ghim in are the props, and we are recommending you take the top 10, top 20 and top American options.
