Punahele Soriano vs. Dustin Stoltzfus

UFC Austin Middleweight Bout

Soriano: The Story So Far

At 31, Soriano will enter UFC Austin with a 9-3 professional MMA record, including 6 TKO/KO victories and 2 submissions. The Hawaiian native is an All-American D-3 wrestler and a former UFC performance bonus recipient, and boy, this brute can generate punching power!

Soriano’s Stats

  • Soriano Pro MMA Record: 9-3-0
  • Soriano Knockout Wins: 6
  • Soriano Submission Wins:

Stoltzfus: The Story So Far

Stoltzfus, the 6’0″ orthodox striker, possesses a 75″ reach. Before joining the UFC, he held a regional scene championship for the FFA and successfully defended that title twice. He has a red belt in Tang Soo Do, a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and a black belt in Luta Livre, thus proving his versatility in mixed martial arts.

Stoltzfus’ Stats

  • Stoltzfus Pro MMA Record: 14-5-0
  • Stoltzfus Knockout Wins: 5
  • Stoltzfus Submission Wins: 6

UFC Austin Soriano vs. Stoltzfus: Skillset Breakdown

Soriano is a large, powerful wrestler with considerable force in striking exchanges. He will attempt to maintain pressure on his opponents by alternating levels and landing powerful strikes to the head and torso with both hands.

Although Stoltzfus is also a large, powerful athlete, his skill set is more traditional martial arts oriented. Although he may feel at ease in the kickboxing range, his lack of speed and strength prevents him from posing a significant threat and coordinating his techniques in a destructive fashion.

Punahele Soriano Moneyline Reasoning

Soriano’s UFC record isn’t the most desirable. Still, the level of competition he’s faced is a step above Stoltzfus, a fighter who’s honestly fortunate to still maintain a position on the UFC roster.

Cardio concerns have been an issue for the Hawaiian, but Stoltzfus doesn’t push enough pressure to cause complications in this area, and the rest is history.

The available UFC odds with Bookmakers Review favor Soriano, and I won’t be surprised if the current line of -280 isn’t raised to -350 and beyond come fight night. Once the betting public realizes how lackluster Stoltzfus has been in his UFC career thus far, they will jump on the opposite side.

Soriano will bully Stoltzfus from the opening bell until Stoltzfus is left unresponsive. I’d go as far as to say that this prediction holds more confidence from me than any other contest on this fight card.

UFC Austin Punching Parlay Leg 1: Soriano ML (-280) at BetAnySports

Steve Garcia vs. Melquizael Costa

UFC Austin Featherweight Bout

Garcia: The Story So Far

Steve Garcia won four consecutive bouts after recovering from a 1-3 slide dating back to 2018 but was defeated in his UFC debut on short notice by Luis Peña. He won three of his subsequent four bouts via KO/TKO and earned his first post-match bonus while remaining undeterred.

He’s a proven finisher, as all eleven of his professional victories over the past five years have been decided via knockout.

Garcia’s Stats

  • Garcia Pro MMA Record: 14-5-0
  • Garcia Knockout Wins: 11
  • Garcia Submission Wins: 0

Costa: The Story So Far

Melquizael Costa also made his UFC debut on short notice; however, he was defeated in the middle of the second round by a rear-naked choke applied by Thiago Moisés. His second bout, an unbalanced mauling of Austin Lingo, was considerably more successful and earned Costa his eighth victory in ten bouts.

Costa’s Stats:

  • Soriano Pro MMA Record: 20-6-0
  • Soriano Knockout Wins: 7
  • Soriano Submission Wins: 6

UFC Austin Garcia vs. Costa: Skillset Breakdown

In addition to being an exceptionally durable technical kickboxer, Costa has significantly superior durability to Garcia; his only TKO defeat occurred in 2017 during a corner stoppage between rounds. Given the few chances that Garcia will be given to land precise TKO-potential blows, such failures will give the Brazilian a huge edge as a potential winner.

Melquizael Costa Moneyline Reasoning

Surviving the first five minutes of Garcia’s explosive nature is all Costa needs to achieve to heighten his win probability. With a much cleaner technique and a solid chin, I wouldn’t be surprised if “Melk” found a KO/TKO stoppage of his own on the back of Garcia’s reckless tendency to go all guns blazing.

The available UFC odds with Bookmakers Review favor Costa, and rightfully so. The -235 moneyline isn’t the price I was hoping for, but in conjunction with Soriano’s ML, I believe we’re receiving two solid fighters that combine for excellent betting value.
