UFC Edmonton Main Event Profiles
Brandon “The Assassin Baby” Moreno
Former two-time flyweight champion Brandon Moreno has spent nearly nine months on the sidelines, marking this break as his longest hiatus since joining the promotion in 2019. And rightfully so. The trilogy with Deiveson Figueiredo, including back-to-back brawls with some of the finest flyweights to ever do it, warranted this deserved break, but can we expect a rejuvenated “Assassin Baby” ready to snap his two-fight losing skid?
It isn’t easy to go against a 30-year-old Moreno, who could arguably be yet to reach his prime. He’ll face a fearless, unbeaten talent this weekend, but if there’s one thing we’ve learned about Mexico’s first-ever UFC champion, it’s that underestimating him is often risky.

Amir “The Prince” Albazi
Amir Albazi arrived at the UFC in 2020 and has since stormed the flyweight rankings to become a top-10 competitor. Five straight wins, three wins via KO/TKO or submission, and a constant ability to overwhelm the opposition with pressure make him a serious candidate as the next in line for a shot at flyweight gold.
Many argue that Albazi’s recent win over Kai Kara-France was a decision the judges got wrong, and they might be right. However, we must also recognize that he hasn’t been active in the octagon for over a year due to career-threatening injuries, and this may have played a role in his most challenging fight to date.
Moving forward to this weekend, the Iraqi representative is one significant win away (Moreno) from stamping his position as a rightful challenger for Alexandre Pantoja’s title. That is, of course, easier said than done when a baby assassin stands before him!

UFC Edmonton Skillset Analysis: Styles Make Fights
Moreno’s kickboxing, particularly at a distance, will be superior to Albazi’s aggressive, high-output style. The Mexican can be a slugger in the pocket, but his best work is notably done at range, where elusive footwork and a stature bigger than most 125ers deliver a high output with consistency behind excellent cardio to match.
Albazi’s Pressures against the cage and pressure in the striking realm with a notable jab have earned him a reputation as a constant pressure fighter. He’ll certainly be the stronger of the two, with more power in his punches, although his smaller stature and technical striking deficiencies might see him drop rounds in a kickboxing war at range.
The wrestling of Amir Albazi will come into play, and his control time will be imperative. While he’ll need to bring his A-game in all facets of MMA this weekend, focusing on grounded control should be his clearest path to victory, considering most of Moreno’s past losing rounds have stemmed from such situations.
Fight Goes the Distance: The UFC Edmonton Best Bet Formula
These two men are as tough as they come, and while Moreno has struggled for victories of late, Albazi didn’t look great versus Kara-France. This doesn’t make predictions easy, but noteworthy cardio and unreal durability at both ends of the cage do! The available odds at the top sportsbooks have made Moreno a slight favorite. That said, I’m not interested in the moneyline, as I believe any man can pull off the victory. Instead, we can bank on durability, as we have two fighters who’ve never been stopped in the distance under the UFC banner.
We have two great gas tanks, BJJ defenses, and chins, so betting on this fight to go the distance makes sense – despite holding a tad bit of juice at -190. I expect the judge’s opinion will be required in the UFC Edmonton main event following five rounds of flyweight action between two fighters who are as tough as they come.
