Choi: The Story So Far
The “Korean Superboy” is a story of dramatic decline like no other. Upon his debut in 2014, the 23-year-old Korean youngster was touted as a serious prospect, and he lived up to the hype with three straight wins by knockout.
Unfortunately for Dooho Choi, veteran Cub Swanson derailed the hype train, and it’s been a steady downfall ever since. With only four fights since 2016, Choi has lost three and drawn one, and now we’re looking at a “Korean Superman,” whose past aura has completely disappeared.

Algeo: The Story So Far
With a mediocre-looking 5-4 UFC record, Bill Algeo’s potential is often overlooked and discredited. The Wiki-cappers see such numbers and write him off, but he has a well-rounded skillset, and certain victories, like the Joanderson Brito dub, have aged beautifully.

UFC Vegas 94 Choi vs. Algeo: Skillset Breakdown
Dooho Choi, as soon as the competition level was raised from journeymen, got utterly exposed by the elite of the featherweight division. A three-year absence following a three-fight losing streak ended last year, but even when gifted a lower-level opponent in Kyle Nelson, he faltered once again.
Skillset-wise, he relies too much on the knockout power, which brought him to the main stage. He hasn’t won a fight since 2016, and beyond the first round, complications for Choi evidently begin to mount.
This one-round style of fighting is where Algeo can flourish. Sure, he recently suffered a knockout loss to Kyle Nelson, but this was notably his first KO defeat ever, and we know Nelson possesses some heavy hands.
Algeo has the takedowns, the BJJ black belt, and a clean enough striking game that can avoid the “dreaded” Choi knockout. And when this fight enters the second round, Algeo’s cardio will reign supreme, an advantage where I wouldn’t be surprised to see him grapple and finish the fight via submission.
Bill Algeo Moneyline Reasoning
Algeo has all the skills and potential to cause Choi problems. As previously mentioned, it’s a knockout or bust situation for the Korean more often than not, and with a -162 price tag to fade a fighter who hasn’t won eight years and is susceptible to skilled grapplers, we’ll take this value all day long.

Brian Kelleher vs. Cody Gibson

Kelleher: The Story So Far
As a 37-year-old bantamweight, Brian Kelleher is riding a three-fight losing streak and will enter UFC Vegas 94 with 10 losses inside the distance throughout his pro-MMA career. He’s at the tail-end of his career, and while he’s a 40-fight veteran, it’s difficult to back the man who’s lost three consecutive bouts in the first round.

Gibson: The Story So Far
Cody Gibson holds a 1-5 UFC record. It sounds like a red flag; for some, it certainly is. However, the numbers don’t tell you that he was previously cut from the UFC and fought his way back to the promotion with some credible wins and an Ultimate Fighter 31 finals appearance.

UFC Vegas 94 Kelleher vs. Gibson: Skillset Breakdown
Gibson’s obvious weakness in his two most recent defeats – Brad Katona and Miles Johns – haven’t been shameful losses by any means. The grappling of Johns suffocated him, and although he lost to Katona, he still managed over 150 strikes.
Kelleher is good enough to threaten the wrestling offense versus Gibson, as he has past opponents. This will result in a standup war, and there’s little to no chance that he can match the output of Gibson.
While both men are similar in age, Kelleher lacks the wear-and-tear factor. He’s dealt with serious injuries, and in brutal honesty, I struggle to give him any path to victory, whether this bout plays out on the feet or on the ground.
Cody Gibson Moneyline Reasoning
The end of Brian Kelleher’s career isn’t far away, and he’s fortunate to still hold a UFC contract. He’s lost three straight fights inside the distance, and although Gibson also enters Saturday on a losing streak, the latter’s efforts were much more trustworthy.
The available UFC odds favor Gibson, but the -190 price isn’t terrible when considering the fade on Kelleher, which has been in effect for some time now.
Whether it’s by KO/TKO, submission, or decision, I expect another loss for Kelleher, and again, it could very well arrive before the judges intervene. Gibson is significantly better than his record; he isn’t a world beater, but the fade train on Kelleher continues.
