Second-year Bengals starting quarterback, Joe Burrow, returned from both an ACL and MCL tear in his left knee in 2021 and lead his team to an AFC Championship for the first time in 33 years. Cincy also made its third-ever Super Bowl appearance but fell to the LA Rams 23-20.
Burrow entered the big game as one of the favorites to win the MVP in the NFL futures odds, however, Rams’ star wideout Cooper Kupp rightfully ended up with the accolade. He was also on the leaderboard to win the 2021 regular season MVP award which ultimately landed in Aaron Rodgers’ lap for the second-straight year.
But that doesn’t mean Burrow’s chances to win MVP are over. In fact, the young QB is just getting started.
Burrow’s Bounce Back Season
Burrow, 25, will enter his third season in 2022.
The former No. 1 overall NFL pick for Cincinnati completed an NFL-high 70.4% of his passes in 2021. He also threw for a total of 4,611 yards and 34 touchdowns and led the Bengals to their first AFC North division title since 1970. Not to mention that 33 years later, Burrow’s 525 yards during Cincy’s Week 16 win over the Ravens broke Boomer Esiason’s single-game passing franchise record.

Fast forward to the playoffs and Burrow completed 68.8% of his passes for 842 yards with four touchdowns to just two interceptions. His outstanding record-breaking season, fresh off a gruesome knee injury, earned him the prestigious Associated Press award of Comeback Player of the year.
If Burrow can accomplish all that he did in 2021 behind a shaky offensive line, imagine what he can do in 2022 once the Bengals bolster it.
Burrow’s Chances to Win MVP in 2022
The early NFL MVP odds for the 2022 season have Joe Burrow coming in at +1200, tied with Russell Wilson and trailing Josh Allen (+700), Patrick Mahomes (+750), Aaron Rodgers, and both Tom Brady at +800, and Justin Herbert (+1000)
While these odds certainly meant nothing until a playoff run, they do tell us that Cincy still needs to beef up their roster in order to compete again and help Burrow win MVP. And they have been getting started doing so by adding to their offensive line in free agency by signing offensive tackle La’El Collins, center Ted Karras, and guard Alex Cappa. They also signed a new weapon for Burrows in tight end Hayden Hurst.
