This week’s WM Phoenix Open looks perfect for Jake Knapp on several levels.
Long hitters with great short games have always flourished at TPC Scottsdale and that is Knapp’s modus operandi. Last year he arrived in Phoenix in fine form when finishing 28th on debut and once again, Knapp arrives in good form having re-found that sort of form at the same time of year.
Week by week there has been improvement from the thirty-year-old Californian this year. Last week’s finishing position was much better than the bare result after Knapp dropped several places during the final round at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am having been in the top 10 for the opening 54-holes.
The icing on the cake for a bet on Jake Knapp is that he lives close to the course and therefore will be able to sleep in his own bed, something not to be sneezed at, over a long season. He has been quoted as saying he views the Stadium Course at the TPC Scottsdale as his home track, and he could quickly become a fan favorite and receive local support from those rowdy galleries.
