Approximately 11,000 runners at the Mexico City Marathon have been disqualified after thousands were found to have cut the course, according to Spanish newspaper Marca. Some runners allegedly used vehicles or public transport to skip ahead in the race.

That’s exactly what I thought but they said this marathon has had tons of cheating in the past. Many got in cars, etc and were taken past check points to other spots in the race
