The oddsmaker doesn't try nor need to "get it right" in whatever sense you might mean there. They are severals steps ahead of you and define their own "right".

Besides, we originators use computers now, but with a purpose, chucky. Much can be automated, including updated info. There are plenty of information aggregators too.

The markets will never be efficient, there will always be opportunity. The oddsmaker will help the bookmaker (in some places they are the same) to exploit that, and we can too.

They aren't just trying extract vig from an efficient market. They can take a position and decide whether or not they want the clients that might burn them for it.

So don't forget, books have risk management to help with their cause, and don't just have to rely on a line that we originators "get right".

Hope that make sense. Remember to review what the purpose of the line actually is as many get caught up and overwhelmed in sports that they forget.
