A new season is upon us. The majority of the European Top Leagues will be starting up in August. The quest for The Holy Grail of soccer , Champions League , commences today with small market clubs vying for qualification.

Ch League Qualifier : Panevezys ( Lith ) vs HJK Helsinki ( Fin ): 11:30am est

Panevezys were league champs of Lithuania last season and make their maiden voyage in European play today. HJK of Finland are old hands at playing extended football in Europe and boast a long history of winning domestic titles. After 21 league games in the new campaign , Panevezys sit in 9th place in a 10 team league. With zero experience and a lack of confidence creeping into the side , I like Helsinki to win this 1st leg and travel back to Finland with the upper hand. As I type this I notice the line is moving in HJK's favor

Hans & Franz was a Saturday Night Live skit. Franz555 is a tribute to my childhood idol Franz Beckenbauer who wore #5. I wore his #5 , despite playing forward , from Age 6 to Age 46.

Unfortunately No

It's usually a swim and some music with my wife in the evening. I can talk my way into watching the odd soccer game at night , like Colombia and Uruguay.

Palmeiras are worth $254 mill compared to $24 mill for Atletico
Palmeiras are usually dominant on home soil ( 5 game winning streak against higher positioned sides )
Atletico are decent on the road but coming off 2 tough losses and not a very confident side in 19th place in a 20 team league
No Rios , who is playing great for Colombia
Weather is 22c and partially cloudy in Sao Paulo.....Let it rain down Palmeiras goals all night
