With the last minute shakedowns it's already gotten ugly.

:lmao:

For those who don't know, here are some details. When I say every place, I'm not sure who all was sent the letters from Liberty Media, who owns F1, but I do know some big houses, that already paid F1 millions in fees also got the letter asking for their nightclubs to pay more as well as anyone with a view.

All of this F1 race was planned long ago, deals were made, but they waited until now to spring the shakedown and threaten establishments...

F1 asking every club and restaurant on that route to pay a $1500 licensing fee per person that your establishemnt can hold, not per person there, but $1500 x capacity, no matter who is there race day.

If not, they threaten to build a post or stand to block the view of the street and even threatened to face a spotlight towards the club, restaurant, whatever, so anyone looking out is blinded and can't see the race.

They're shaking down vegas, lmao. There trying to charge for an event on the public streets. Unprecedented for sure.

All the roadwork happening at Vegas is paid for by the F1 side ($80 million worth of work) but since some of the work is legitimate improvements and upgrades, they asked the county to foot half the cost. They laughed, they don't have $40 million for that, but they will pay something for the improvements, they're negotiating.

When it comes to road construction, there is some newer news on that and indeed Clark County will be paying some amount to F1. I don't think the amount is decided yet.

Unfortunately JJ it is pretty bad. Especially down on the strip. They are doing random closures of one side of the strip to repave so the traffic is just a nightmare. Thankfully I am very familiar with a lot of the back roads and shortcuts so I tried to use them as often as possible to avoid all the traffic. Sometimes it is just unavoidable depending on where I'm going. Unfortunately they choose to do it at the wrong time. You should do it overnight and not do it on the weekends. The weekends are bad enough as it is and throw the construction traffic into the mix and it just makes for gridlock

They race in cities all over the world. Do they shake-down every location like this or is Vegas unique?

I believe this type of licensing does come with F1, but I'm sure how many of those locations made a deal beforehand, or were basically shaken down at the 10th or 11th hour.

But yeah, this type of viewership licensing, to protect the product, is something they do, as far as I know.

If clubs pass the costs onto the consumer, F1 will do well, but the overall cost of this venture may lead to less attendees in future years. We'll just have to see how it goes. It's amazed for long time now how much money visitors to Vegas will end up dropping in the name of a Vegas trip.

So who knows, maybe the appetite is there at those high costs.

Probably every location. but since it's the first year it's going to be held in Vegas it makes it even worse. Moving forward it might not be that bad when they already have a lot of the infrastructure in place

Yeah, that's why they're spending the money for the roads.

But that letter from Liberty Media, man that's just crazy to do at such a late hour.

You still driving the Tesla? Any more comments on how you like it?
Still driving it. The more I drive it the more I like it. The only negative is having to stop to charge and the battery life not being the best due to constantly using the air condition but I am trying to get used to it. I've been driving more later at night to use less air. Plus it's a lot cheaper to charge at night than during the day

It varies. The cost to charge is cheaper at night. Usually at night I can go from about 2% to full for around $7 give or take. During the day it would cost me about $22-$25. As far as how often it just depends on how much I am using the air conditioner, if I'm charging my phone etc... Every little thing you do drains the battery. Similar to a phone. I usually try to charge right before I go home since it's cheaper at night and I'll have a full charge for the next day and usually I have to stop once throughout my day to recharge but I just use that as a dinner break
