It's official. The move will happen next year.

To get included, SMU had to forgo all broadcast media revenue. :lmao: Not sure why they would do that.

Oregon St. and Washington St. still have no conference for next season.

Wow. That is a huge ask of SMU. Giving up tens of millions of dollars. For how long do they forego the revenue ??? Hopefully not through the current ACC TV contract which goes until sometime near 2035 I think.

From the article.

SMU is expected to come in for nine years with no broadcast media revenue, sources told ESPN

No money to be a doormat with the student body footing the bill. It doesn't seem like a smart move on multiple levels.

They currently make about $8M in AAC. Probably would be closer to $10M/yr with Cincy & UCF leaving.

ACC currently hands out $40M/yr per school but now it would be chopped up more with more teams.
Can SMU absorb an additional $70-80M hit by going to ACC?

It could be their last shot at going Power 5 conference and leaving G5.

SMU does not need the money. They are super rich. They are going to cheat like crazy and win.

The main reason they are adding the teams is because the conference still gets all of its money from ESPN if the Florida State and Clemson leave. If they lost too many teams, they could have their contract renegotiated so they are creating the next ACC.

Washington State and Oregon State may get to keep all the money the Pac 12 is due so may add teams to that conference. They can get into the MWC anytime they want.
