We celebrate the Christmas with what we called "Misa de Gallo" or a midnight mass Christmas Eve. Go home after the mass with a lots of food and Christmas games and exchange gifts.

For the New Year, we always prepare 12 round fruits in a basket believing it will bring luck and fortune for the whole round year haha. ;)

Nothing unusual for us. Just the standard stuff:
Xmas morning open presents never Xmas eve.
Play with the kids and their new toys while trying to watch a game or two.
Huge dinner in the evening.
Drive around looking at Xmas lights after dark then family board or card games at night.
Lots of drinking (mainly wine/beer) throughout the day.

How does the 7 thing work?
it's usually all placed on a big table, with many different plates
you have baccala, which is a salted cod, my family would go crazy on the stuff
calamari, which is squid, you guys would know it more as Fried calamari, ( but it was made 2 different ways ) some type of shellfish, like lobster or crab, frutti di mare, which is a bunch of shellfish like clams, mussels, prawns, and more in a red sauce, and then the sides are mostly fried vegetables

it's great if you are a fish person, and so much is made that it would feed 20+ people
I can't even remember if there was ever anything left.

could also be a Jewish thing?
a non -catholic / christian to go to dinner?
because every other place is closed
I not sure...are Jewish stores open all the time? Jewish have 1 day off a week for sure, Sunday or Saturday too, so I pretty sure worldwide most cultures have days off, but Chinese have the least if any days off most choose to keep working.

It's just that in China especially Hong Kong most places open year round 7 days week and same in all the Chinatowns - only day off is Chinese New years, but even then most Chinese restaurants stay open for that too.
