This is interesting read.
He wouldn't come into the game Monday with Padres leading 1-0 and 2 outs in the 8th. Since 2020 he hasn't pitched more than 3 outs in a game. It seems as though this is a personal restriction he has made with his teams (is it in his contract????). He's a free agent after this season and stated:
“It has nothing to do with the offseason,” said Hader, who is set to hit free agency after the 2023 season. “It’s the now, it’s the health, it’s the making it through the entire season—162 games is not an easy task to do. You see guys work overloads, they get injured.”
Padres ended up losing 2-1.
