It's unbelievable to me that we haven't accomplished much of anything since that time exploring space. I know we had Skylab and space shuttles but I thought after that day so much more would be done.
I think money started to restrict the dreams of going further.
I do think we've accomplished a lot with NASA since then. The technologies that were developed by Nasa and the space industry have made huge impact in society. There are hundreds of items but one that has had a huge impact in my industry is carbon-carbon fibers. The stuff they used on the heat tiles on space shuttle. We use that in high temp applications all over the chemical industry and its stronger than titanium.
Unfortunately, similar material was used inappropriately in the submersible going to the Titanic that imploded recently.
