Making a “Bucket List”

Not a fan of the term - but with plenty of time doing nothing - laying here thinking of things I want to do.

So far I’ve came up with:

- Another trip to Mexico - Puerto Vallarta, ideally cruise out of San Diego. Always liked SD - cruising down to the Sea of Cortez was one of my faves - only had 5 days last time - next I’d like to double it.

- Alaska again (been 3 or 4x) - want to do a few days in Anchorage and actually go further inland.

- Panama Canal/Costa Rica

- Nashville

- Bourbon trail - KY Derby (always discussed doing with father - never made it)

- French Riveria/Italy - spent 5 weeks in Europe as a young broke ass kid in 1998 with WC going on. Loved South France - Italy didn’t get enough time in and just Northern. Also want to do Ireland and London again.

- Finish my cabin down “home” 100 acres of woods and a smallish pond. Just a place I grew up where I can literally get away from everything/everyone. Need a place to just rejuvenate and reconnect. Fact it was home to my dad/grandfarher/great grandfather and appears to be immediately adjacent to where great grandfather was was born is a bonus.

All I can think of at the moment - what’s on your list ?

Panama to Costa Rica is like 1 hr and 30 minutes, so yes, it's better to extend your travel to CR if you go to Panama. You will love the beaches here.

A few of my bucket lists that I can think of rn, are my Europe tour and skydiving (recommended by Tanko).

Always wanted to to Viet Nam and parts of Asia too. Father was there during the war for 18 months.

Panama - had a good buddy down there in our invasion - lot of stories about his time there. CR obviously many stories from those on forums and sounds like a lovely place to visit. Trying to convince the wife to move there - she wants Seattle - says because of the weather (never too hot nor too cold) - keep reminding her while technically right - it’s also a rainy communist carbon copy of California. I’d much prefer Vancouver BC if I could.

CR gives you great weather and a much better cost of living I know.

I've always wanted to do Bungee Jump in Macau or the Glass Bridge, both in China.

Even if you're not into extreme sports, just looking at people DO it will make your heart beat faster. I highly recommend either experience.

You also need to bring a lot of patience with you if you choose to settle here. Delays can be longer than normal stated days, sample like from a government when processing legal papers, or from a plumber who will fix your broken faucet or internet. lol, but overall it's Pura Vida hehe

Cruising Alaska is a great way to see a lot conveniently - huge area to cover and honestly a lot of what you want to see is along the water.

Still would like to go further inland a little.

Inner passage is my favorite though - calm seas and viewing glaciers up close while sitting on your balcony with a beverage of choice and just listening to music relaxing is amazing.

Plenty of things that can be done free/low cost.

When I went to Europe - I had a plane ticket ($400 - Delta economy) and $600 in my pocket. Started crashing in hostels and cheap hotels.

Made friends with the people giving out samples of Uncle Ben’s in the London Underground and that was my meals - stumbled from pub to pub drinking whatever was cheap and chatting up anyone who looked like they’d buy us a drink or 2.

Fortunately discovered Ladbrokes and fell back on instinct - making racing bets and winning. Wound up in Amsterdam at a pub one day - games were going on and place was hopping - offered to help out bussing tables/barback - wound up giving me a place to stay upstairs and meals plus tips. Great guy - was from Detroit originally. Good thing I met him too as discovered the hostel we were supposed to stay at also served as the holding facility for low level convicts (pickpockets and such) - great planning - putting a bunch of pickpockets and drunken brawlers in a dorm with a bunch of young adult soccer fans.

Maybe schedule a party with all your loved ones and let them know in private convos during the party how you feel about them....

The party I'm talking about is the one where you let them know you'll be gone for a few months traveling covering the rest of your bucket items.

What cruise line you going with ?

It does seem to make a difference - both ship size and passenger age/type.

October is probably last of the season - we were scheduled for late September actually - got a “free” interior - which i upgraded. They changed some ports so I canceled - that worked out well I guess,

Next year for sure I think - leaving out of Seattle. Vancouver is great to visit - but I just love staying at the Edgewater in Seattle. That will be another bucket list thing - staying at Edgewater in the Beatles suite. Would be cool as hell if they would ever do a Zeppelin suite - but don’t see that one making the tourism marketing campaign. Pearl Jam suite looks cool too. Plus Seattle has luggage valet free from ship.

Vancouver I like hotel at Canada place - similar service with luggage - they take it right to ship for you when you stay there. I hate pushing around 5 damn suitcases before/after a cruise (wife’s usual 4 and mine).
