4 days to the MLB Trade deadline (Aug 2nd).
NY Yankees got All-Star outfielder Andrew Benintendi earlier in the week. What else are we going to see???? Here are some of the headline rumors.
Shohei Ohtani (LAA) - Wow! Who would have thought the Angels would trade him? They apparently are entertaining offers. The crazy part is he is on the last year of a $8.5M 2 year contract and will go to arbitration in 2023. My guess is someone will have to give up their first and second born to get this guy from the Angels.
Luis Castillo (CIN) - Fox sports is indicating Seattle is super focused on signing this guy for the run to the playoffs. It was rumored they may go after Soto too but Castillo is apparently the more likely target for the Mariners. Of course the Yankees (w/ a few others) are very interested as well.
Carlos Rodon & Joe Pederson (SFG) - Giants have not played well of late and are 17.5 games behind the Dodgers and currently 3 games out of the wildcard. Both are potential free agents at the end of the year so we have to wonder, will SFG entertain offers????
Pablo Lopez (MIA) - Marlins will entertain offers for any player except Alcantara. With Sandy Alcantara off the market, Pablo Lopez is up "for sale". Yankees are considering Lopez or Castillo as a pick up.
Juan Soto (WAS) - Apparently the Padres are leading the bidding for Mr. Home Run Derby winner. Of course the Yankees are still going after the superstar as well.
Wilson Contreras (CUB) - Mets actively pursuing this catcher.
Frankie Montas (OAK) - Padres are considering him for a pickup.
General Team News:
The most active teams in the trade market appear to be AL Central teams (MIN, CWS, CLE).
Astros are loaded with pitchers with the return of McCullers so they are looking to trade one for a center fielder. They may trade Urquidy and center fielder Jose Siri for Baltimores Cedric Mullens.
