NBA fans were left far from impressed as the Boston Celtics were crowned champions with a 4-1 series victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Monday night. The Celtics beat the Mavericks 106-88 to clinch a league-high 18th NBA Championship as Dallas only managed to break 100 points in the series once, a Game 4, 122-84 win.
"Can we all agree this was the worst NBA season in a really long time?" a fan fumed on social media. "Relatively boring playoffs, quiet MVP race, All-Star weekend officially dead, Jayson Tatum superteam gets a ring, no big midseason trades, Klay shot 0/10 in an elimination game. NBA is losing its aura."
"Congratulations to the Boston Celtics on winning the NBA Title. This is by far the most boring and worst NBA postseason we've ever witnessed," another said. A third added: "This is tough to watch. Has to be the worst NBA playoffs I've ever seen. Just blowout after blowout uncompetitive games. Awful product."
Nonetheless, the Celtics and Tatum made history this week after years of coming up short. Tatum reflected on his journey with Boston and said the shortcomings of the past were worth it all in the end. "This is at the top of the mountain," Tatum told reporters after the game.

"To be able to say we did it, that we came together and we won a championship, banner number 18 has been hanging over our head for so many years. To know that we're going to be engraved in history, and it still hasn't like registered.
"I'm just still trying to process it all, but we did it. We won a championship. I mean, this is going to be a night that I will remember for the rest of my life from the game, the celebration, these moments.
"Over the last couple of years, we had some tough losses at home in the playoffs and we've lost the NBA championship at home in front of our fans. We had a chance to beat Miami in game six a few years ago and lost that one.

"So to have a big win, the biggest win that you could have in front of your home crowd, I felt like that was really important to go out there and do everything in my power to make sure we won this game tonight."
On the opposing team, Luka Doncic had been listed on the injury report for every game of the series - but played all five outings in his bid to help Dallas be crowned champions. However, despite struggling with injuries, Doncic insisted there are no excuses.
"It doesn't matter if I was hurt, how much was I hurt," he said. "I was out there. Tried to play. I didn't do enough."
