Trying to keep this as short as possible. May be tough.
Sometime in summer 2021 I happened upon a link or article about a class action lawsuit against MG dating back about a decade, maybe from dates 2011-2018ish suing them because so many of their customers got scammed sending money. The premise was MG didn’t have sufficient warnings (for example I did my first MG in forever several months ago and there’s multiple warnings and you have to sign that you know the person, etc.; wasn’t like this back in the day).
Up to the point I discovered the class action lawsuit there had been a two-year window to join it, and it happened to be closing in literally seven days.
I figured why not. I’m real good at filling out paperwork. But the challenge was you needed your reference numbers, the exact amount sent and the date. And who the hell still has that stuff from a decade ago?? Luckily MG was able to retrieve all this data going back ages and all I had to do was send them $100. I used all different ways to say my name. First name and last, middle name and last, first middle and last, but MG found all of them.
The total I sent over this long span of many years was approximately 50 deposits totaling $25k. Back in my married years it was the easiest way for me to send $$ and do my own thing.
I filled out the paperwork exactly how they needed it, and sent it certified mail the day of the deadline to join the lawsuit.
I kind of forgot about it. Honestly I thought I’d be lucky to see a few bucks, like maybe the $400 or so I got when I joined the Wells Fargo lawsuit. But in February this year, I got a check for $4,800 as a result of the lawsuit. I was happy as hell of course. I did notice something funny, is they only gave me credit for the first 10-12 or so MG amounts. I thought maybe they didn’t see the rest of the dates and amounts, or more likely maybe they could only give a fraction of each total claim because they had so many. Whatever the case, I was very pleased.
So I get home today and what the hell is in my mailbox? A check from the class action lawsuit for $19,200, the remaining $$ amount of my claim. I was floored. I got paid back/refunded 100 percent for every MG deposit I sent over an 8-9 year span.
I’m still in shock. The best part when I think about it is I cashed out a lot of profit over those years from those deposits. More than $6k from a 2015 Broncos futures and $6k from another nice futures I hit on Molinari to win the British Open. And many other decent sportsbook runs along the way.
I basically freerolled every one of those deposits. Still hard to believe.
