I will keep this this going throughout the year to give my opinions on them separate from all my other NFL shit. Because I obviously will have lots of thoughts about this team

Cincinnati is coming off a pretty historic ATS run over this past year-plus. I think the books are finally starting to give them the respect they deserve. so I can't imagine flat-betting them against the spread this year is necessarily going to fatten your wallet

That said, like with any team, there is always an opportunity for value to present itself from week-to-week. So I will always be looking

Some random big picture thoughts:

I think they could be the best team in the league IF they can get serviceable play from their younger secondary. That is the one weakness of this team on paper: they could have some holes there with key losses of Bates and Bell.

I think the tight end position, if their current guys stay healthy, will end up being strong enough in a loaded offense. I know that has been a concern, but I don't think there are gonna be problems there

Their offensive line depth concerns me still a little bit, but getting Orlando Brown was pretty significant -- one of the biggest moves in the NFL this offseason. They truly could have a very solid offensive line now if they stay healthy. That's a BIG if though....

I'm not concerned about Burrow's calf. I don't think the public should be either. The only downside to what happened could be a little bit of rhythm issues in the passing game the first week or two, but all indications are that even before the calf, that Burrow was having a pretty tremendous offseason. So it shouldn't be anything like last year where he had the appendix issue and he was visibly kind of twiggy and out of sorts. I think he'll be a lot closer to peak.

If the Bengals can get through the first two weeks (@Browns, Ravens) 2-0, then the sky is really the limit for them. Opportunity to enter their Week 7 bye at 6-0 if they can get through the first couple divisional games. That will be tough, as early season football is just weird, and the Bengals can be prone to slow starts. But they are that good IMO.

There's gonna be added emphasis on getting off to a fast start. Mahomes has yet to play a true road game in his playoff career, hosting the last 5 (!) AFC Championship games. I have personally enjoyed flying to Kansas City and going to the last two AFCCG at Arrowhead, but I think this team will be motivated to play some playoff games at home this time. Bengals have played in 7 playoff games the last couple seasons, and only 2 of them have been at home.

Bengals did the right thing not playing any truly key pieces during the preseason

Burrow probably wouldn't have played a snap even without the calf thing

Team looks good to go Week 1. Gotta avoid the rusty performance. Will be tough

Early lean is to take the Bengals if you're gonna bet that game Week 1

They could play a crappy first game and win by a field goal IMO

Last year Week 1 was ugly with Burrow off the the surgery. Yet they still dominated the Steelers outside of the turnovers and miscues

Burrow reportedly looking great, as if there is no injury at all.

I am not encouraged about the team's recent history against the Browns as well as the slow start tendency with Burrow missing practice time.

But gun to my head, I think the Bengals get it done Week 1 and get off to a 1-0 start. The goal is getting the #1 seed this year, and I think they will start the year off with much more urgency.

Winning the first two games to start the division at 2-0 would be HUGE......it would pretty much wrap up the division, barring injury IMO
