The latest numbers are in on baseball’s radical changes and they continue to be very positive as you can see. Dan Snyder made a bundle in selling Washington, but at least they will probably improve record-wise on short notice with him gone. We also have interesting news from last night in sports and all the latest betting trends for the weekend. We close things out by looking at the NBA Playoffs and offer useful information.

About Last Night…

MLB

Having beaten Minnesota 13 of the last 15 games at home, the Yankees at -140 looked like a good bet. But rookie pitcher Jhonny Brito, who had looked great in his first two starts, had no bullets in his gun and gave up seven runs and six hits in two-thirds of an inning. His replacement Colten Brewer was not much better, coming in and giving up back-to-back jacks as the Twins batted for 28 minutes and scored 9 runs in the first inning.

Those nine runs in the first inning tied the most the Yankees had ever allowed starting a game and this is only their 121st season.

And Minnesota rookie Edouard Julien did this.
With Tampa Bay down 3-1 to Boston and making lethargic-looking miscues, it seemed like the win streak was over. All the Rays did next was score seven times in the bottom of the 5th and go on to roll 9-3. That is 13-0, which ties them with Atlanta (1982) and Milwaukee (1987) for the fastest starts ever.

Among the superlatives of the Rays, their OPS (on-base percentage + slugging) is .941 as a team, which would place the team 29th on the all-time individual list. It won’t hold up, but at the moment it is like having a team of Ty Cobb’s (.944).

NHL

The Oilers ended the regular season on a nine-game winning streak and a 15-game point streak. Superstar Connor McDavid ended his season on a 16-game point streak. The last and only other time an Edmonton skater and team had simultaneous 15-game point streaks was Wayne Gretzky in 1984-85.

Unfortunately, Edmonton was two-point shy of catching Vegas in the Pacific Division.

Carolina was a -105 underdog at Florida, yet they came through to win 6-4, which gave them the Metro Division by a single point over New Jersey.

Dallas and Colorado both needed victories and got them. The Stars lead the Avalanche by a point, however, the Avs are at Nashville tonight as a -225 road favorite and will win the Central with a triumph.

The Buzz

MLB – Baseball Is Better, Here is the Proof

Here's an update on MLB's 2023 rule changes:
  • Pace of Play: 2022: 3:07 / 2023: 2:37
  • Batting Average: 2022: .230 / 2023: .250
  • Runs per Game: 2022: 8.0 / 2023: 9.4
  • Stolen Base Success Rate: 2022: 74% / 2023: 80%

NFL – Dan Snyder Leaves in Disgrace, With a Lot of Money

The Washington football franchise was sold and Dan Snyder is gone. Though not liked much anywhere, those closer to the D.C. area had a genuine hatred for Snyder while loving the Redskins/Commanders.

With Snyder out, almost anyone would be positive. For being arguably the worst NFL owner ever, Snyder walks away with $6 billion (his partners will get their share) on a 1999 investment of $750 million. Never listen to sports owners who claim they don’t make money.

NFL – This is Curious

New York Giants star running back Saquon Barkley does not plan to sign his franchise tender before the team's offseason program begins Monday, according to Newsday and ESPN's Adam Schefter.

With Barkley 26, this “seems” like a stalling tactic to prevent from paying Barkley his worth, using his age and time in the NFL against him next season. Stay tuned.

Top Betting System

NBA Playoffs – Hawks vs. Celtics (Total 230.5)

Play Under on home teams like Boston when the total is 230 or higher, having covered four of their last five against the spread, a good team (60% to 75%), playing a team with a winning record. Teams in this situation have played 30-6 Under, with an average final score of 223.7 points.

Out The Door

NBA – Dallas Docked by NBA

The NBA has fined Dallas $750K for resting their players vs. Bulls in what was an elimination game for the season. Here was a clever response considering who the Mavs owner is.

NBA – Betting Numbers for Opening Days of NBA 1st Round

Home favorites with four or more days of rest in the NBA playoffs are a stellar 112-69 (61.9% ATS) since 2006.

Unders went 58-35 in the playoffs last season, the best year for Unders since 2004-05. Will that continue this season?

NBA – What Sportsbooks are Wary of for the Playoffs

NBA - Golden State in Unique Situation

The Golden State Warriors are the first team in the last 35 seasons to be a -200 series favorite in Round 1 of the NBA Playoffs as a 6-seed or lower, per @ESPNStatsInfo.

And now Andrew Wiggins is returning for the postseason after being out since Feb. 13.

NBA – Sucker Bet?

The Lakers are +120 to win their series over Memphis in the first round and they have attracted a good number of bets. Yes, the Lakers have LeBron and A.D. and they played well down the stretch but whom do they have to guard Ja Morant? Also, the Grizzlies are 8th in points off turnovers and 8th in fewest points allowed off turnovers. The Lakers are 29th and 17th respectively in those categories.
