It was stunning news today that Arizona released DeAndre Hopkins. How and why the Cardinals got nothing for him is crazy.
We look at where Hopkins could be headed.

In March, Jimmy Garoppolo had foot surgery and we are just hearing about it now? Curious. We dig in to determine if the Heat and Golden Knights will wrap up their series on Saturday. Plus, the top trends and free picks for the holiday weekend.

About Last Night…

NBA

Boston has staved off elimination twice with two blowout wins over Miami. However, this is the hard one, winning on the road in Game 6. This is often the graveyard for comebacks.
However, the temperature has been turned up on the Heat, who have failed to reach 100 points in their last two contests against the Celtics and are -12 in turnover margin in that span. Getting back Gabe Vincent would be huge for Game 6, but for the first time in the playoffs, Miami looks vulnerable and playing as they did in the regular season.

NHL

Dallas lived to play another day, winning in OT Thursday 3-2 as -115 home favorites.
The Stars can be hopeful because they dropped the first two games in Vegas beyond regulation and just need to make a break or two to send the series back to Dallas. There have been three straight unders, and a fourth seems very possible.

MLB

The Oakland A’s are 10-42, losers of eight in a row and have a -184 run differential.
This is not by mistake. Ownership has been trying to force a new deal either in Oakland or elsewhere and will likely be rewarded and given public money to restart the franchise where they can fleece new fans. It is one thing to tank, but this is an embarrassment to all of baseball, as this was done purposely.

It is time to start paying attention to Baltimore. The Orioles just won a series at Yankee Stadium, which came after sweeping Toronto on the road. Baltimore is only three games behind Tampa Bay and they are the second-best bet behind the Rays in the majors.
The O's are 6th in scoring and 10th in runs allowed and have the No. 1 bullpen in run prevention. If they can trade for a starting pitcher in July, this rather young club is legit.

Trendy Talk

MLB

  • Baltimore is 21-7 when the total is 8 to 8.5 this season.
  • Tampa Bay is 35-6 in home games vs. a starting pitcher who lasts less than five innings per start since 2021.
  • Pittsburgh is 6-24 when playing on Friday the last two seasons. (Mostly series openers)
  • San Diego is 14-2 under when playing against a good team (Win Pct. 54% to 62%) this season.
  • Texas is 11-1 over after allowing three runs or less in two straight games.
  • Toronto is 7-0 over having lost four of their last five games.
  • Dean Kremer and the Orioles are 15-1 when the total is 8 to 8.5 the last two seasons. (Saturday)

NBA

  • Boston is 11-2 over in road games after two straight wins by 10 points or more. (Saturday)

NHL

  • Vegas is 10-1 off a road loss by one goal this season. (Saturday)

WNBA

  • Washington is 9-2 under as a road favorite.
  • Seattle is 12-26 ATS vs. division opponents the last three seasons.

The Buzz

NFL – Jimmy Garop Had What?

New Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo had foot surgery in March after signing in Las Vegas and apparently is still recovering.
And this is supposed to be good for a new quarterback in a new system? Hmm.

NFL – Arizona, You Got Nothing?

The Arizona Cardinals released wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins on Friday. Hopkins' future with the Cardinals had been in question since the end of the 2022 season because of his team-high $30.75 million cap hit, which ranked tops among wide receivers in the NFL and seventh-highest overall, according to ESPN. It was speculated Hopkins would be dealt during the draft, which did not occur.
General manager Monti Ossenfort said at the time: "DeAndre's a Cardinal, and we're moving forward." We guess that means we are doing nothing and releasing him and getting absolutely nothing.
With the lowest season win total of 4.5, which is also the Cardinals’ worst number in 31 years (in 16 games, not the present 17), a bad look for a franchise that appears lost.

Motor Sports – No Buzz Whatsoever

The Indianapolis 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 are this weekend. Outside of tight racing circles, these two events are not even brought up. NBC will have the Indy 500 and FOX the NASCAR race.
Sad about both of these.

Top Betting System

MLB – White Sox (-145 ML) at Tigers

Play on road favorites like the White Sox with a money line of -125 or more, batting .190 or worse over their last five games, with a hot bullpen whose ERA is under 2.00 the last 10 games.
The oddsmakers’ line suggests despite ‌poor batting, that Chicago should score runs and the bullpen can make a lead hold-up. Teams like the Pale Hose are 38-6 in this rare situation.

Out The Door

NFL – What’s Next For DeAndre Hopkins?

In the sports betting world, things move swiftly. Here are the opening odds of where Hopkins might land.

MLB – Brewers Told to Repair Their Park

Having attended games at the old Miller Park when it first opened and not having been back there since moving in 2004, this news came as quite a surprise to me.
This is worth watching for developments.

MLB – Baseball’s Most Loyal Fans

We have no idea who came up with this chart and there is plenty to question and disagree with.
However, St. Louis at or near the top makes sense. Nevertheless, how hard is it to be a Cardinals fan, since they have not had a losing season since 2007 and just 11 such years going back to 1966?
When you have enjoyed that many winning seasons better than 80% of the time over 56 seasons, of course you will always love your team.

Oh and BTW he deserves stable management, a QB who loves football and a great defense. He has earned that. I know he had the PED thing but aside from that essentially has had no off field issues and has handled some questionable situations like a professional.

They just release one of their best players, so, I think the Cardinals are now ready to go 0-17 all the way.

I presume someone will be smart enough to sign him. Depends on cap hit I' sure.
