While the Celtics and Vegas both advanced to their Conference Finals in their respective sports, they would not have done so without the failures of the 76ers and Oilers as we explain.

San Diego losing to the Dodgers again is like saying a chance of rain in the tropics. NBA head coaches are quickly becoming commodities as we talk about and Fanatics takes a large step in the sports betting business. Lastly, golfer Jason Day tells his emotional story of returning to the winners’ circle.

About Last Weekend…

NBA

Boston actually dropped from -6.5 to a -6 point favorite for Game 7 against Philadelphia at game time. The first half was competitive with the Celtics up just three points. Then the wave came and Boston blitzed the Sixers and you could see in the third quarter when they visibly gave up.

Nobody has lost more elimination games than Doc Rivers and Joel Embiid again didn’t come through for his team in a big way. Boston is not a great team, and given who the Final 4 is in the NBA, a great team will not win the title.

If you had the Over, Philly scoring 10 points in the third quarter was made worse knowing any of the dozen or more shots that were in-and-out would have given you a winner.

NHL

You can have the best player in the world like Connor McDavid, but if you play loose defense and don’t have a top-notch goaltender, you end up like the Edmonton Oilers, out of the playoffs earlier than expected.

In truth, the Oilers were fortunate to reach six games against the more balanced Vegas crew. If not for Edmonton scoring nine of their 19 total goals on the power play, this series would have been over in five. Vegas had a massive edge in 5-on-5 hockey and superior goaltending.

MLB

Maybe sarcastic Padres fans should have this as a t-shirt.

San Diego was swept by the Dodgers where they scored four runs in the series. It proves 250 million does not go as far with inflation. (Or you are not as good as the Dodgers.) The Dodgers are now on a 13-2 run!

Pitching injuries are affecting two of the best teams in baseball, Atlanta and Tampa Bay. The Braves were swept in Toronto, having to fill in for injured starting pitchers, which exposes their bullpen. The same goes for the Rays who split four with the Yankees and could have won three of four and were extremely close to losing three of four.

The St. Louis Cardinals are still in last place in the NL Central at 16-25, but their disposition is much improved after sweeping the Red Sox at Fenway.

Trendy Talk

MLB

  • L.A. Dodgers are 23-3 at home with a money line of -100 to -150 the last two seasons.
  • Houston is 21-3 after four or more consecutive Unders.
  • N.Y. Yankees are 1-9 (-11.4 Units) in road games after four or more consecutive Overs since 2021.
  • Philadelphia is 4-12 since last year vs. LH starters.
  • San Diego is 11-1 Under in May games this season.
  • Baltimore is 18-5 Under after four or more consecutive Unders in the last two seasons.

NBA

  • L.A. Lakers are 5-13 ATS in a road game when the total is 220 to 229.5 this season. (Tuesday)

NHL

  • Seattle/Dallas is 6-0 Over in their series.

What to Watch For and Win (Hopefully)

NBA

The Conference Finals are set and they start Tuesday with the Lakers at Denver. Then on Wednesday, it’s the Heat vs. Celtics. Get our free NBA picks for both contests and see the series odds below.

MLB

We delve into a new week of baseball and we have reached the quarter pole of the season and we are seeing development among all the teams. Of course, we will have free MLB picks, parlays, and top props for you.

NHL

With Vegas’ stunning wipeout of Edmonton, the Golden Knights await tonight’s Seattle vs. Dallas winner which we have broken down. Also, watch for our East Finals preview of Florida vs. Carolina and our best NHL picks.

The Buzz

NBA – Conference Finals Betting Odds

  • Denver (-150) over L.A. Lakers (-130)
  • Boston (-525) over Miami (+375)

Thinking about the Heat as an underdog? Check this out…

NBA – Ja Morant Making His Life Harder

We know what a talent Morant is for Memphis and if you have heard him speak about sports, he’s thoughtful. That’s why his flashing a gun for the second time in months on social media is one of two things.

Either he is a “thug” of sorts and changes personalities to be a basketball player or he’s a “pretend thug” and wants to act that way with his crew and just has not grown up yet.

He better decide quickly what he wants because with the injuries he’s already suffered and his thin frame, he could be a non-factor by 30.

NBA – Pro Hoops Owners Turning into NHL Owners

With Monty Williams fired over the weekend. That means in the last six seasons, none of the NBA head coaches whose team had the best regular season record are employed at the moment.

Just like in the NHL, coaches are becoming commodities.

Sports Betting: Fanatics Buys PointsBet

PointBets was known as the 7th largest operator in the US but was losing ground. They had their share of problems, some of their own making, but essentially they lacked the capital to compete with the big boys on a state-by-state basis. It will be interesting to see what Fanatics changes for the company’s trajectory.

Top Betting System

NBA – Twins vs. Dodgers (-115 ML)

Play On home teams like the Dodgers after allowing two runs or less in two straight games, against an opponent after a combined score of 15 runs or more. Teams like Los Angeles in this situation are a super 32-7 SU the past five years which includes a perfect 5-0 this season.

Out the Door

NBA Playoffs – Doc Rivers Still Employed?

Doc Rivers has coached seven teams that have blown 3-1 or 3-2 series leads. Just sayin’.

Golf – Jason Day Back in the Winners Circle

After being the best player in the world seven years ago, Day lost his way primarily to back problems and changed his swing to compensate. Day won on the PGA Tour Sunday on Mother’s Day and had this to say.

Poker – Legendary Poker Player Doyle Brunson Passes

Doyle Brunson, the renowned poker player who won the World Series of Poker bracelet ten times, has passed away at the age of 89, according to his family's announcement on Sunday.

What Bettors Like – Play or Fade?

MLB - Top 5 Bets by Percentage - Highest First (54-36 record, 8-2 run)

  • Astros
  • Padres
  • Diamondbacks
  • Twins/Dodgers Over
  • Mariners/Red Sox Over

NBA Top 1 Bet by Percentage - Highest First (61-39-1 record 40-23 run)

  • No Plays

NHL Top 1 Bet by Percentage - Highest First (34-21 run)

  • No Plays

Let’s get some winners! See you back here Wednesday.
