For those not sure if rest matters in the NBA playoffs, that was evident as Denver dismantled Miami in Game 1 of the Finals. Shannon Sharpe is leaving Skip Bayliss and FS1. Does anyone care? Here is the latest on that story.

We also have interesting takes on Aaron Rodgers, Joe Mazzulla staying with Boston and Ja Morant. This, plus some must-watch videos and this weekend’s top trends!

About Last Night…

NBA

For Miami, the first half was their worst nightmare at Denver. The Nuggets' vastly superior size allowed them to score at will in the paint or nearer the basket, as they were 32-of-52 on two-point attempts (61.5%). Though it no longer matters, the Nuggets outscored their foes by 17, 18, 11 and 17 points in Game 1s at home.

In truth, Denver’s defense did nothing special as to why Miami missed so many first-half three-point shots and the Heat made several more to finish 13-39 behind the arc. One aspect Miami has to change is having TWO free throw attempts in Game 1. Don’t blame the refs; blame the Heat for that.

One last thing, the analytics crowd was all over the Over in the opener. But the numbers cappers pounded the Under, which was an easy winner for them.

MLB

With their four-game home sweep of Colorado, Arizona has caught the Dodgers and is tied with them after 57 games. There is nothing fluky about it, as the D-Backs are 25-15 in games decided by two or more runs.

Credit manager Torey Lovullo, who has this aggressive young team playing hard every night and you can see the passion in which they play. The Snakes are now the best bet in the National League and 3rd overall.

NBA

NBA commish Adam Silver said the NBA and Players Association has already decided on Ja Morant’s suspension, but said it would be unfair to announce it now during the NBA Finals, to distract from the players.

That reads to us that Morant is going to receive a LONG suspension. Whether you agree or not, since he’s done nothing to break the law, the NBA doesn’t want bad actors. (Other than floppers taking charging calls.)

Trendy Talk

MLB

  • Baltimore is 6-42 after a 5-game span where the bullpen ERA was 7.00 or worse since 2021.
  • Philadelphia is 4-16 when the total is 9 to 9.5 this season.
  • Tampa Bay is 21-5 over vs. an AL team with an on-base percentage .330 or worse this season.
  • Cleveland is 22-6 under, having lost two of their last three games this season.
  • Texas is 15-3 against the run line vs. a starting pitcher who gives up 5.5 or less hits a start this season.
  • J. Taillon and the Cubs are 0-8 in his starts this season.

NBA

  • Miami is 12-3 ATS in road games after having lost three of their last four games. (Sunday)
  • Miami is 15-6 under after scoring 100 points or less this season.

NHL

  • Florida 11-1 postseason run.
  • Vegas is 12-3 over in home games revenging a same-season loss.

WNBA

  • Chicago is 0-6 ATS after covering four of their last five against the spread.
  • Washington is 9-1 ATS in home games after scoring 40 points or more in the first half of two straight games.
  • Los Angeles is 1-10 ATS after two straight games with 7 or less offensive rebounds.

The Buzz

NBA – The Phoenix Suns Have Penned Their Next Head Coach

NBA – Celtics Keeping Joe Mazzulla as Head Coach

That comes as a minor surprise. However, Brad Stevens announced Mazzulla will be surrounded by more experienced coaches who understand the league better to help him through the growing process.

Mazzulla will no doubt use the off-season to think like a head coach and make new decisions as opposed to being thrown in like last season.

He has to first get back a stronger defensive identity for the Celtics and have an offense that does not rely on three-ball so much.

Media – Shannon Sharpe Has Heard Enough

We are not suggesting Shannon Sharpe is a likable media person, but after seven years, he’s had enough of Skip Bayless and is leaving their show. Reports have Bayless hand-picking his replacement, likely someone who will play the stooge and go along and agree with him most of the time with his attention-grabbing comments.

Hopefully, Sharpe is sharp enough to cleanse himself of Skip and come out back better than ever in his next endeavor.

NFL – New York Jets a Play to Win AFC East

This week Peyton Manning and Tom Brady both said that after talking to Aaron Rodgers this off-season, they are convinced he and the Jets will have a very successful season.

Their belief is he is looking forward to a new challenge with something to prove and they are convinced he will. Seeing as both former quarterbacks lived through the same circumstances, it's hard to say they are wrong.

The Jets are currently +280 at Bovada to win the division, which is behind Buffalo at +115.

SEC Football

With Texas and Oklahoma arriving in 2024, the SEC grows to 16 teams, yet it decided to keep its 8-game conference schedule. That, of course, is ridiculous and insiders explain why.

The SEC wanted ESPN to pony up even more money and they refused. Conference officials said a main reason for not going to nine conference games would be canceling an already scheduled non-conference contest, but it’s not like Power 5 programs don’t cancel these games annually.

Once ESPN decides to enrich the rich, the deal will happen, and likely as soon as 2025.

Top Betting System

MLB – Orioles (+1.5 RL -153) at Giants

Play on road underdogs like Baltimore against a 1.5 run line (Money Line = +150 to -115) with an AL starting pitcher whose ERA is 4.20 to 4.70, against an opponent with a starting pitcher whose strikes out five or more batters per start.

Since 2019, teams like the Orioles are 52-10 on the RL, including 5-0 this season.

Out The Door

MLB: Jose Altuve Evidently Had Never Seen the Angels Ben Joyce

10 straight fastballs at 100+ MPH.

NBA – Wonder What Boston Celtics Were Doing When Miami Could Not Make a 1st Half 3-Pointer?

Media – Peyton Manning Was Pure Gold on Saturday Night Live

This popped up on Twitter today. Enjoy.
