THE Pac12 is alive again

Four schools are set to announce as early as Thursday that they plan to depart the Mountain West Conference to join the Pac-12, sources confirmed to ESPN.

Boise State, Colorado State, San Diego State and Fresno State have applied for Pac-12 membership to begin in the 2026-27 academic year, sources said.

Once these four additions are confirmed, the conference would still need to add two more to reach the NCAA minimum requirement. The conference is in the first of a two-year grace period afforded by NCAA bylaws to exist below the minimum in the case of departures.

I don't think there is any chance of PAC-12 staring a power 5. There's not enough "good" teams out there to absorb that aren't already in B12, B10, SEC, ACC.

With the new playoff system, being in a Power 5 conference isn't necessary. Sure it would help with getting a higher ranking which is what the CFP is all about now but the 5 highest ranked conference champs get in automatically so having that moniker is not required.

That was my point, there's no conference left. Why not just merge w MW and be done w it.

What's next, recruiting NDSU & St Thomas to join.

It's just some rich assholes pipe dream to get a TV contract & west coast exclusively, but BIG10 now owns the west coast.

Yup, and they don't have it nor would the Pac 12 money be worth it.

This will certainly kill the 2025 & 2026 plans and further delay TV contracts and I believe Pac 12 only has 24 months to resolve itself by NCAA grace period.
