Wasn’t Phoenix allowed to keep the name Coyotes as part of the deal - they have 5 years I thought to attract an expansion team who would assume the names/records of the Coyotes (similar to how Cleveland Browns kept the records of the now Ravens team when Cleveland got an expansion team).

Agree though the moniker is just stupid - pick a damn name !! Quit running stuff via “focus groups” as to what has staying power and is most marketable.

Could be worse - you could be called something that makes absolutely ZERO sense like the Lakers (made plenty of sense in Minnesota - but zero in LA) or Jazz (again - it made plenty of sense in New Orleans but zero in Utah). There are plenty of decent suggestions out there - pick and run with one and worry about winning games - not selling merchandise.

My feeling - look at the Blue Jackets for a good comparison.

First 2-3 years - honeymoon phase - people will come to support the team no matter how bad.

After that - gate will be largely based on the record.

With only 10,100 seats up for grabs - expect a sell out every game the next 2 seasons with plenty of seats going for well above face value.

It’s amazing - the team can be horrible - but tell people you only have a few seats left - they will buy and pack the house - especially the first few years.

I thought this is just a placeholder for the year - like Washington Football Team was for the Redskins/Commanders while they figured it out.

Eventually they will come up with one - but yea it’s just stupid. Just pick a name - obviously don’t want to use the ECHL team name (Grizzlies) - as you have a NBA team with that name (and why in the hell does the EAST COAST Hockey League have a team in Utah - which is not East of much)

Call them the Bees or whatever - make it unique.

Just so this Ryan Smith DOUCHE BAG can re-brand it and make everybody buy new shit. Just like when he changed the Jazz to black and yellow and then changed it back to the original colors this year.

How are you going to come into your inaugural season with no drip???? The Kraken at least knew what was up.
